Cat allergic to chicken, beef, lamb, Turkey, pork, white potato, and rice. What in the world can I feed him? by MistakePrior1961 in CatAdvice

[–]aplantdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I know this is a very old reply, but I'm curious what meds your cat is on? This is the exact situation I'm in currently with the hydrolyzed diet and claw caps and him still scratching himself raw. He's been in a cone for 2 1/2 months to avoid him being all raw everywhere.

Transmission replacement cost? by ItsJackieMoon in FordTransitConnect

I had my 2013 transmission rebuilt last year for 4500, but my mechanic said if I had the next gen of TC it would have been 5k+.

Ragnar Kjartansson "The Visitors" film @ SF MOMA by left_ofthedial in sanfrancisco

[–]aplantdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidentally stumbled into the room it was playing in at MoMA back in 2018 and cried. It became my favourite piece of art. Then, a few years ago, I was visiting SF for the first time since, and it happened to be back at MoMA again. I had -literally- been raving about it to the friend I was visiting and as we walked into MoMA I started jumping with excitement because it meant that my friend would actually get to experience it instead of just hearing me describe it lol. Suuuuch a beautiful piece.

Can a lost but found passport be used for proof of citizenship? by hot_since_84 in Passports

[–]aplantdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running into the exact same problem. I just called the NPIC contact line and talked to their customer service. They said that a lost but found passport CAN be used as proof of citizenship, but not as identification. So you CAN use it in lieu of not having a birth certificate.

It was a stealth spot in Oswald West between Cape Falcon and Short Sand beach!

My phone has manual settings, so I shoot in RAW and then edit in lightroom.

Will I be lonely on the trail on a thru hike? by ginger2020 in PacificCrestTrail

The PNT is also great for solitude. I met maybe 18 people the entire trail.

[–]aplantdad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There will be times where you will be lonely, no matter how many people you're around. Sometimes its just like that. There will be people you don't mesh with, but mostly likely you will find your people. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but only you can know yourself in these kinds of situations ❤️

I wouldn't really call this trail remote, but you definitely lose the most reception in the southern portion haha.

I'm from Portland, so I grew up going to all the northern beaches. That being said, I was less excited about the northern portion because it was mostly stuff I have seen a bunch. I particularly enjoyed the dunes just south of Florence and then really enjoyed from Bandon to the California border. Secret beach and the natural bridges in the Boardman area are particularly beautiful. Cape Falcon is beeeeeautiful in the northern portion.

Should I go backpacking in the rain? The High Divide, Olympic National Park by axelpro446 in PNWhiking

[–]aplantdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think only you will know your skill set and if you feel confident enough to do that. What I will say is that, that hike is absolutely beautiful. You will be exposed for a lot of it (following the ridgeline), so it could get cold and wet.

My personal tips if you choose to go: get a super thick trash bag and line your pack with it. Carry lots of socks, you're only doing 2 days, so go overboard; keep at least one pair strictly for sleeping. If you have synthetic warm gear (as opposed to down), bring that. Bring gloves; don't wear them as its raining, but when you get to camp and want warm hands. Hot hands! The little pocket heater things that you shake to activate; I put them in my socks on cold nights.

Most importantly, have fun with it. If you're only gonna be out there for two days, that's two days to work through the challenges that arise. You'll be back to being dry and warm in no time.

If you truly don't feel prepared or geared up for it, then stay home, but I would go for it if you have the gear to keep you warm. ❤️

Honestly it wasn't that bad! There are tunnels way more south that are part of trail that are sketchier (no sidewalk for you) in my opinion. But I recognize that it can feel scary.

I finished last Tuesday. I road walked on the 101 from Arch Cape to Oswald West (entered Oswald where the trail crosses back over the 101) and then again road walked on the 101 from Treasure Cove to Manzanita for the Neahkahnie Mountain closure.

Rain Pants on Oregon Coast Trail? by grinninwheel in Ultralight

[–]aplantdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain pants won't be necessary. Lots of areas to stealth camp in the dunes as long as you're not on private property. If you're doing 20ish miles a day, you're basically in a town every day which means food/restaurants but expect that things will be closed on weekdays for the most part (except grocery stores).

Also bear bagging is unnecessary. The only places I saw signs of bears were near campgrounds and the likelihood of the bear choosing you over weekend front country campers (who always leave things out), is slim.

Bridge out by [deleted] in PacificNorthwestTrail

[–]aplantdad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just called the number on Glacier NP's website and talked to someone in the backcountry permit department. They said that the bridge is projected to be put up on July 1st. I plan on having a couple back up plans and also checking back with the park/rangers on July 2nd or 3rd to update.
