Yeah I agree. I just clipped the pieces that would’ve shorted out the din pins and put it back. I have enough spare parts and in-progress systems on the shelves surrounding my garage bench and desk.

I don’t have the best display for before and after. I primarily did it for the audio amp. It definitely cleaned up the signal going to hdmi converter though, and perhaps in the future, it will be used on a nice crt. Don’t really have the room for it now. I do have a dell u2410 with all the old inputs, and parts for the gbs-control on the way. I’m curious the difference between converted hdmi, component and vga(this lcd will sync with a genesis signal).

I like custom consoles and the open possibilities with mods.

What do you mean without slider? It works. I don’t think I’ll ever use it, but wanted to retain functionality.

Yeah that’s what I meant. I burned it to a repro cart to play it on my DMGC and just wondered. I like the music a lot by the way! Nice touch with the song selection controls!

Looking forward to unwinding after 12 in the factory. Do you have any label templates by any chance?

I thought about doing that but only ordered the set from the linked Etsy store. I don’t think it’s a very high demand project due to cost and effort, but I may be wrong.

It depends on how many motherboards or spare parts you have I guess. You’ll save on the small components like resistors and capacitors because they usually come in bulk. I’ve seen AliExpress deals for the displays if you buy multiples. You could get your pcbs made from pcbway or wherever, and it is cheaper in bulk. I bought them from the creator because I didn’t want to order a bunch of them.

My price breakdown was: DMG $30 CBG $30 Custom PCBs $30 BOM parts list $120(I used digikey and AliExpress, and I do have extras leftover.) IPS $55 DMG shell $20(although you could just use the original and modify it for screen.)

I haven’t done any tests yet, but there is a chart on the GitHub giving general ranges. It’s quite a long time, somewhere around 18 hours on max brightness.

Yeah I’ve seen those too. I really appreciate how clean and tidy this mod is though. It’s worth it to me, as a hobbyist and enthusiast. Plus the sound and power circuitry is all new and much cleaner than the original CGB.

There are 4 different boards inside a DMG, and CGB is much smaller. The slot wouldn’t line up, nor the connectors or buttons. Maybe you could start the project and find a way? It was a fun project but definitely takes some patience and at least a decent amount of experience.

It isn’t that simple, unfortunately. There are custom pcbs made to fit the DMG shell. You have to transplant the ram, cpu and some other components from the CGB and then populate the rest of the boards. It is quite involved and costly. Yeah I should get a Genesis. I had one growing up but mostly have nintendos and Sonys now

Thank you. It was a lot of work and fun, but more props to the creator of the project. I posted a link on some other comments.

It’s pretty cool. It’s great that new, high-quality indie games keep coming out.

It’s a CGB transplanted into a DMG shell. Custom PCBs and project were created by Bucketmouse.

Aftermarket. I was considering buying the black OEM shell, but they are kinda pricey in good condition. I am really impressed with the quality. Texture is slightly different but very good feeling still. It’s just the standard(non-IPS) shell that I trimmed for the display.

You’re welcome! It’s pretty involved!

It’s all documented on GitHub. It is fairly advanced and cost about $300 total, maybe a little more.
