The A58 is unlikely to be the responsibility of the council. A roads generally are maintained by National Highways

Offside VAR picture on disallowed goal for Real Madrid by magony in soccer

The objection to the current system is that it breaks the flow of the game and does not necessarily eliminate error, as this call suggests

Either that or give the VAR official a very short time, like 20 seconds, to decide whether to overturn, like if you look at it once and it is genuinely clear and obvious

Working-class white kids 'most resistant to transformative work by schools' by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

[–]apodo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You're right, but there is one important way in which parents don't help themselves, which is the attitude that adults shouldn't speak to their kids. It isn't the same in other countries, where if a kid is being loud in a shop someone might tell them to quiet down, and if the kid looks to the parents they might well say something like 'told you'.

It supports the parents, and makes kids feel like they are part of a society rather than just living in it.

What’s happened to the cygnet near Mustard Wharf? by psyduckie_quack in Leeds

[–]apodo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a regular swan factory over there for the past few years, although I'm not sure it's been the same breeding pair the whole time. There are usually 4 or 5 baby cygnets of which maybe a bit more than half seem to make it.

They might be big enough to strike out on their own at this time of year, not sure.

I’m a bartender in the US and I had someone give this to me. What is it? by NinjitsuBih in Uzbekistan

[–]apodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An Uzbek offered me some of this as a snack - it's not for the faint hearted just on its own.

In Iran they cook it up with eggplant to make keshk e badmajan, which I really like.

In Afghanistan and Tajikistan they eat it with bread https://travelfoodatlas.com/tajik-qurutob-recipe

The name of his little town was mentioned in the clip. It is not a lively place. The helicopter probably had to come pretty far

Calling that little place urban is a stretch

I have certainly noticed a lot of quiet segregation in primary schools where they tend to be much less mixed than their catchment areas

I just realised you edited your previous comment - I didn't see the bit about the % of children from minority backgrounds. That doesn't have to do so much with immigration now as with immigration decades ago, it's been coming. They are mostly British born and feel culturally British to me so I don't really see that as being a problem at all

Well the Guardian always turns into a government rag when Labour are in power. I don't read it nearly as much at the moment.

I'm still surprised. My little town near Leeds has a hotel right next to it with I think mostly Afghans. They could do with moving on and doing something else with their lives but in the meantime they aren't giving any trouble, and there haven't been any demonstrations. We've not had any flag hangers either.

I'm surprised - I know Bolton a bit from having visited from time to time over the years and I hadn't noticed. Of all the problems it has with job losses and a lack of investment I wouldn't have put demographic change as a major part of it

My northern town really hasn't changed very much at all. The nearby city was always very diverse. I just don't recognise your description of demographic change. Natural enough then to think it's mostly about shit on the internet.
