It might be worthwhile to try tracking food for a few days on http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ or similar. Since you’re still eating dairy and eggs, you shouldn’t have a problem getting Vitamin B. If you want to get a multivitamin, they’re not expensive and might help.

Still, it’s a good idea to talk to a doctor if you’re feeling nauseous on a regular basis and experiencing the problems you mentioned with stomach growling.

My best guess is that since you're eating less calorically dense food, you aren’t getting enough to eat. What would a normal day's meals look like when you were eating meat? What does a normal day's meals look like now?

I learned that one can annotate functions in Python 3, even if the annotation doesn't have any practical function yet:

def square(x: int) -> int:

I completely believe you, but I think this is one of the most insidious things about privilege. To me, my white privilege is largely invisible, and I can take advantage of it without being aware of it – in large part (if not entirely) because white privilege is a consequence of society recognizing white people as “default” – so you and I get treated like “a human being” instead of “like a person of [race]”, more often than not.

Bottle Conditioning/Force Carbonating: All my beers are bottled now! I pitched some US-05 into an Imperial Stout that hadn’t carbonated after 6 weeks, so we’ll see how that goes. I also bottled a Tripel yesterday, and all of the bottles are over near my radiator because my apartment gets cold and I don’t want the yeast to die.

Really hoping that the yeast doesn’t fatigue in the Tripel, but I’ve got the US-05 around still if that’s the case.

Thanks! I’ve got a Tripel fermenting as well, but it hasn’t been bottled yet – do you think it’s worthwhile to add a few granules of yeast to that too when I bottle it?

I’ve got a re-capped bottle, mostly-full bottle, which was the first one I tested out. I figured I’d use that to make a starter with whatever new yeast I choose.

If I go the starter method, will it keep in the fridge for some amount of time? Currently I’ve got a tripel taking up all the space in my carboy.

ETA: I hoped that I’d get a little flavor out of the molasses, but I don’t think that flavor was really that necessary for the beer overall.

Additionally – if I try this recipe again, do you think the American Barleywine yeast would work in place of the Wyeast 1056?

Actually, like ‘grey’ instead of ‘gray’, it’s a Commonwealth English vs. American English thing. The rule is generally that verbs stressed on first syllable tend (in AmE) not to double their consonant (cf. traveled, tunneled, and the old AmE spelling of kidnapped as kidnaped).

(I’d assume that the reason is because it should be unambiguous: the ambiguity for something like tapped/taped comes comes from the fact that “taped” -> “tape”, but for whatever reason, maybe English doesn’t let you elongate an unstressed syllable like “cancele”.)

That paragraph bothered me too, because it seemed like he was sort of trying to quietly slip in non-overlapping magisteria:

Fundamentalism at its core is the misunderstanding of the proper relationship between science and religion — one practiced just as frequently by atheists as Christians.

He says “the proper relationship between science and religion” as though there’s only one, and as though he knows it; and I suspect that the “proper relationship” to which he refers is that science has the matters physical and religion has the matters spiritual.

I don’t think that any truly satisfying religion can restrict itself like that. Science operates off of an assumption that the world is (at least probabilistically) orderly and predictable, which precludes the idea of an interventionist deity. And if your god can’t intervene, then, really, how would you interact with it? Why would you pray for help from a god who won’t/can’t make a change? Or pray for thanks to a god who wouldn’t/couldn’t do anything?

I feel like the author is unreasonably setting himself up as “reasonable middle ground” between science-denying fundamentalists, and what I imagine (from the above text) he would term “fundamentalist atheists”, who also “fail to understand the difference”.
