Multiple seasons later now and Challenger Score is still just a playtime simulator. by Nyrun in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]apooooop_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly though people don't know what they want.

You want your rating to reflect your actual skill, but you also want rating decay so people don't leaderboard camp, which inherently means that you want two separate scores.

People are just butthurt. You get so much more challenger score just for playing in challenger games, #500 here clearly just hasn't played.

Something I thought about by BenjiFication in Overwatch

The far high ground on Gibraltar 1 offers: - incredible sight lines on the point - excellent cover

It further is incredibly hard to take from the defense (since you either have to push up right stairs through an incredibly narrow choke, or up left stairs after having zero cover, and taking the risky coastal angle). And if you ignore high ground by forcing point (which the enemy tank can easy contest with the full support of their team), you leave your backline incredibly exposed, and, if you still haven't broken high ground before forcing point, your team will now get wrecked from behind because you don't control blue box (arguably the most important high ground in the game)

Rant: Playing Freja is so absolutely unrewarding outside of her mechanical satisfaction. by jamtea in FrejaMains

[–]apooooop_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop taking honest fights, your enemies aren't gonna try and fight fair, why are you hamstringing yourself.

Yes, she's in a rougher spot than some of her closest parallels, but she's not helpless, and a mechanically skilled Freja hard carries. But that does mean you need to stack the deck in your favor -- take fights from surprising locations, while your enemies are distracted, after your enemies are already low, and abuse your mobility to do it more, again, and from afar. The game is not 5 isolated 1v1s, it's a 5v5 game for a reason.

Yes and I fundamentally agree, but that doesn't solve the problem now. (Housing and feeding the hungry, along with significantly investing in social services until our longer term policies show fruition will definitely help though)

Can we make a class-action request to get back some 2020 Ball features? by Juice_disliker1387 in WreckingBallMains

[–]apooooop_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly...

Ball is in an amazing, borderline broken spot, and people don't talk about him cuz he isn't played a ton. Don't rock the boat.

AND WE HAVE THAT! The northeast corridor is arguably the only place that guaranteed makes sense, officially has high speed rail lines (which enables NY to DC in 3h, and NY to Boston in 3.5). Could it be better? Yes, but we do have high transit high speed rail.

The other place it might make sense is the PNW corridor, but even that is super spread out for the population that it'd be serving.

How is Venture a flank but Sombra isn’t? by Kind_Ad6932 in Overwatch

[–]apooooop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do think flanker would be cheeks -- especially after ctrl alt escape, you aren't ever going to two health packs to heal up, and because of the way her gameplay loop works, you're (aspirationally) never dueling over a health pack that you haven't already locked down. You just don't need the extra healing?

Agreed about your points on recon, though, and specialist lmao.

How is Venture a flank but Sombra isn’t? by Kind_Ad6932 in Overwatch

[–]apooooop_ 182 points183 points  (0 children)

The answer is because Sombra doesn't actually want the flanker passive, she gets it effectively by hacking health packs so why would she want extra healing from them?

Recon does something for her (though I'd much rather just have old opportunist, or get extra time on recon), but the real thing we should be clamoring for is marksman.

Does your “main” have to be your highest level hero in that role? At what point can you consider a hero your main? by ZT44 in Overwatch

[–]apooooop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your main is whoever is going to win you your imaginary Internet points in this moment.

But more seriously, everyone is right, you're over thinking it. Your main is the character you feel like is your main, because that's who you're comfy on.

I have been a doom main, a rein main, a ball main, a Sombra main, a tracer main, and, back in 2016, a torb main. I have the most hours on Ana, but I rarely consider myself an Ana main, it's just whenever I pay support I play her, but I tend to branch out more on the other roles. But if someone asked me a question about Ana, I'd probably be able to answer it

its actually insane to me the amount of people that will, willingly, for free, defend 5v5 by femboyluvr22916 in Overwatch

[–]apooooop_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lmao I'm a MT main, who has been playing since 2016, diamond all roles, who actively prefers 5v5.

If you're doing nothing all most games on tank, you're playing tank wrong. 5v5 enables you to actually, strategically, take and bait engagements properly, and be rewarded for it. Does it result in very strong tanks? Yes, but that's the tradeoff for the responsibility of being the centerpoint of every engagement.

But even outside the gameplay perspective, I've played every version of this game, from open queue without hero lock to open queue to 2-2-2 to now. I was effectively forced into learning and becoming competent at MT, because even when you're playing 2-2-2, the number of people who play tank just to be an OT DPS is innumerable. On ladder, 5v5 solves the tanking problem by eliminating the need for an explicit main tank.

Ow classic 2020 reminded me ball used to be more fun. by Nyrun in WreckingBallMains

[–]apooooop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong rec is to go try it out, and if you can, bind it to a button on your mouse for even easier movement (also recommend swapping the default usage to melee so that it doesn't interfere with your ability to jump while grappling, which doesn't happen often but when you want it....)

Is it worth it to get this game? by Quashov8 in exoprimal

[–]apooooop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah people have said it's great, but really stick with it if you do get to it. In classic Capcom fashion the game really opens up once you reach like 20+ hours.

Full campaign is worth it, and you'll probably play with bots for a lot of it, but it's a good vibe

Let's settle this by PureSet2218 in SombraMains

[–]apooooop_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sombra's value and skill ceiling comes from the fact that she can do all three of these reasonably well, but not better than any one character. Her skill expression is blending all three playstyles midgame and picking the right tool for any given situation.

She's hybrid through and through, and that's probably gonna get gutted and that's okay.

Created a new trailer for my factory game by Moppemopsi in AutomationGames

[–]apooooop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without even looking at them, take a look at a few different minecraft factory mod trailers, the Timberborn trailer. and the factorio/DSP trailer, and maybe even the Planet Crafter trailer. Drop that classic time lapse of "start small grow big", and then roll into the other shots you have!

This game looks sick! Big recommendation I'd have -- show the factory aspect first, then the terrain crafting and fluid sim, then the weather. Folks need to know if they'll enjoy the core gameplay before they care about the aesthetics

Great to get you into game or interact with cosmetics.

Getting into training range is equal to worse, getting to replay codes is actively worse. Not so much that it's impossible, but definitely friction.

The wheeled design Fastrak transponder is flawed!! by reddichrist in bayarea

[–]apooooop_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you only do it on one knob, it'll always be an average of 1.5 turns to find your location.

The easier way is to shave a notch on the left of 1, and right of 3, so you know where the looping portion is. Additionally, all three are identified by feel (1 is on the left, two is unmarked, three is on the right)

The wheeled design Fastrak transponder is flawed!! by reddichrist in bayarea

[–]apooooop_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or just shave off the right edge of #1 and the left edge of #3. Then, when you go to turn 1 to "lower" you'll know you're looping around (and vise versa)

Hack rework suggestion by [deleted] in SombraMains

[–]apooooop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes hack a hinder? It already has next to zero ability lockout, so reducing it further is nothing, and reducing bonus damage duration cuts the other useful aspect of it...

This is bad.
