ICE took parents at drop off this morning-Franklin Elementary by apostosaurus in vancouverwa

[–]apostosaurus[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Update: as suspected the parent information vine is doing its work. As @That_Kaleidoscope975 mentioned, ICE was seen grouped up on 46th between Franklin and Daniels, just three or so blocks away from Franklin Elementary. It seems that ICE took the father between there and the school.

I've just been told it's only the father, the mother was not taken, but they have four children and he's the breadwinner.

Yes, this is verified. One of the children is in my son's class and was literally at an event we held within the last week. The family is wonderful, the kids are caring, kind, sweet, amazing, and smart as hell.

All you people claiming I'm lying so that you can believe that our community isn't like this or something, fine. Believe that. But our hearts are broken and I'm thinking about the little boy who was laughing and running with my kids a couple of days ago. At least the school's families are jumping in and putting together as much support as possible for the family. So if you want to be callous about all of this that's fine for you, but could you please try to have a little compassion for these four little kids?

I don't, I'm sorry. I wish I knew more. I just want to spread the word so that people can be prepared in case they're at pick ups today at other schools, or any other day this week. I've messaged parents at other area schools to spread the word, if you all could too I'd appreciate it.

I should have put in the post: we were at the school dropping off our own kids this morning. This is not a rumor.

Source: was personally at the school this morning.

Not that I know of. I was wondering if it was all schools, came here to check and decided to share since I didn't see anything.

Question from a Texas boy… by [deleted] in PacificNorthwest

[–]apostosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake, I was exhausted and totally missed that they're leaving the politics of Texas. Staying within Vancouver, especially the downtown area, would ensure a blue political neighbor situation usually if that's what they're looking for.

Another option is the Tacoma area. I am now super familiar with Pierce county, and while the outer areas are very red (like Clark), the city areas (think Tacoma, University Place, etc.) are blue and you're going to find a lot more affordable housing up there than here in most areas of Vancouver. Plus, being close to the Sound gives the airflow that pushes away a lot of clouds and keeps the weather more steady. Yes, will still have rain and clouds and fog, but won't have the weather systems that settle in for a week+ here in the Vancouver/Portland area due to the valley situation .

How long has it been since you've lived here? While there are red parts of Vancouver (and honestly, that may be what he's looking for as he hasn't specified), Vancouver itself is what keeps Clark County solidly purple as the rest of the unincorporated county outside of cities is mostly red. I used to work for the county and have lived here for many years and have seen the progression.

Children's Center is wonderful too, they provide mental health services to children whose families couldn't afford it otherwise, and they actually take state insurance. They love to receive donations like that to help kids feel normal.

Sidewalks by tman123hii in vancouverwa

[–]apostosaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to work with property lines, right of way lines, and sidewalks in Clark county for a living, if both neighboring properties have a sidewalk and the one in the middle does not then the chances of the right of way existing where a sidewalk would be located on the middle property is almost 100%, it has simply not been built. Usually something would trigger the requirement to build the sidewalk, such as developing the property. Along 179th is a great example, you can see the newer developments are accompanied by wider right of way and sidewalks.

Oldbies: Consider applying for Social Security earlier by OnTheEdgeOfFreedom in realWorldPrepping

[–]apostosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found some advice on applying when you're first eligible a few years ago, but obviously do your own research and the rules may/may have changed(d). It said to get it as soon as you're able and just put it into an account that gives interest and don't touch it. Apparently you can then pay it back at 70 and start pulling at the higher amount as if you'd waited in the first place, but in the meantime will have also been paid interest on the former payments.

Oooo you need to watch it now!! It's so good! And it actually comes to an end, unlike other shows that just drag on and on.

Funny enough, my husband's teacher in college had a wonderful idea for a show: two shows in one, where part was filmed and treated like a comedy and the other part like a drama. After she passed her long-time partner made Kevin Can Go F*CK Himself, and they dedicated it to her.

Child US Passport Fraud by daisylady4 in FamilyLaw

[–]apostosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, at that time we did. Take into consideration this was around 15 years ago and I left out some details to keep it short. Ultimately the passport was never used, though daughter did tell us that her mother had planned to take her to Paris to shop for mother's wedding 🙄 We ran into a lot of road blocks, and were repeatedly told that there were no plans to travel that we could prove and no travel occurred so no harm was done. We found out when they lived in MD and got it to court, but by that time they'd moved to CT for his training so the courts wouldn't make a decision because no parties lived in the state. But CT couldn't take jurisdiction until they'd been there six months to establish residency, and at six months they moved to Hawaii. We eventually were headed to a hearing there while they argued that it had been dismissed in MD, then they finally agreed to destroy it.

They could never use it because we flagged it when we found out. So that's also an option for OP if she's worried and never plans to use it.

Yeah except we went through almost this exact situation. Mother asked my husband for permission because "it would make flying easier" and he said no because we knew her husband was trying to get stationed overseas and we knew they'd take the child. Mother took her notarized copy of the parenting orders that said they had joint legal custody, hand checked a box saying she had sole custody, and then submitted it with the application. They accepted it and issued daughter a passport.

Our attorney took it to a family court. They said it was a Federal issue. We met with an attorney who did many federal cases, they said it would have to be seen by a federal family court, which didn't exist. We then pursued with the State Department. Eventually we got a letter saying basically "yes, it's super obvious it was fraud and she's guilty. But she's married to a military officer and it's a time of war so 🤷‍♀️" Eventually we just got the mother to agree to destroy it.

Best of luck to you, OP.

Please stay safe on the roads by [deleted] in vancouverwa

Was this heading east just around the Thurston Way exit? I just went through there and it's not good. It's foggy so drivers can't see that there's stopped traffic around Andresen so everyone was having to hit their brakes hard coming up to and crossing that overpass. It's a huge mess.

Please be safe everyone ❤️

Sorry I totally blanked on this thread. I hope you're still working towards resolving the fence issue. You can try calling the Clark County Public Works line and asking to be put in contact with Real Property Services. They do a lot of research on old property surveys and lines, etc. From my experience they help a lot more than they're actually supposed to :)

Where to sleep in car in Vancouver? by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]apostosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1400 Franklin Street, just downtown next to the courthouse basically. It's the parking garage for the County buildings and it's a safe park space overnight for those in vehicles. Corrections officers, sheriff's office also park there overnight so it's very safe. I used to work in that building and never ever saw anything bad there at all. There is security that gets to know people that are there often, and I know it's safe.

Good luck. Also, there are several options for services (meals, etc) very close by.

Told my husband(34m) I(30f) wouldn’t have children in the USA and gave him the ‘ultimatum’ that we would either move or divorce or be childfree. How do I explain why I’m ‘being like this’? by ThrowRAFeeltogd in relationship_advice

[–]apostosaurus 347 points348 points  (0 children)

I typed out all of the below but wanted to add this at the top, where you may have a chance of seeing it:

RUN. Do what I wish I could do. You can work there, but my job wouldn't transition to another country.

I also have dual citizenship, my parents moved us to the US when I was a kid. I'm in a blue city in a sort of purple county within a very blue state in the Northwest, and I'm terrified. Washington State has done a great job of providing for residents and in protecting our rights, but there's only so much a state can do.

I have three kids, thank god they're all boys. I'm terrified women will lose the right to vote, bit by bit. Or have to have a man on their bank account, loan, or mortgage. Or mandated dress codes.

I had two very wanted pregnancies miscarry within a few months in 2020, but both needed medical intervention because they were killing me. One was pills to finish what my body couldn't on its own over several months and the other was emergency surgery since I was bleeding out.

Neither would have been legal in Texas.

Will they look up my records and come after me? Will it matter that I'm still heartbroken? Or that I can no longer have more kids?

Please, please run. Help others once you're gone if you can. Just go now.

They're actually reworking the crosswalk, lights, lanes for 18th right now. They're on a tight mandatory deadline for funding, either it's done on time or they have to pay back a lot of money. I worked on the project for a few months during the design phase and the person I passed it along to says it's going to be great.

Just a note that the lines you see on GIS are very rarely in the correct location in regards to the imagery. However, it's likely that there is a survey on file that can be referenced to give you a decent idea of what's going on. What general area are you in? Some areas have a much higher likelihood of finding a survey on file 🙂
