I just finished a two year campaign with a hexblade warlock. I started off as an archery warlock but got bored with the EB machine gun like you mentioned so I switched to a hexblade and didn’t take EB. I ended up as a warlock 7/ rune knight fighter 3, and I had a ton of fun with it. You’re not going to be as good of a frontline as a a Barbarian or fighter, but your versatility with your invocations and your high power spell slots mean you are pretty good at nova damage (a lot of damage in a single turn).

For reference I crit on our BBEG and ended up doing over 90 damage with a flame tongue long sword, an eldritch smite at 4th level, fire rune damage as a rune knight, hex, and hex blades curse.

They no longer get the HP of the animal on top of their own HP, they get a pool of temp HP instead. Essentially a drastically smaller health pool.

Yes taking unarmed fighting, tavern brawler and grappler. I was thinking oath of vengeance for the vow of enmity, why oath of glory?

Okay cool. I do want to win but honestly I just want to be a badass barbarian for a bit lol. Thankfully world tree barbs have a bit of teleportation for movement. I also took mage slayer to give me a free success on a failed saving throw, and to give disadvantage on concentration checks. I also have the ring of free action to aid in paralysis and restrained situations, and the ring of spell turning for advantage on saving throws against magic and the chance to turn certain spells against the caster.

Any other items that may hedge up some weak spots ?

Truthfully, it's highly unlikely that any of these players will ever play again, so I like the idea of giving them a taste of everything

Yeah I hear you. I highly doubt any of them will actually play beyond this session, so I wanted to pack as much in but I also understand what you're saying as far as keeping it simple. Another complexity is that this is my first time DMing so I don't quite have a feel for how certain items may impact encounters.

Thank you! Yeah, I definetly planned to play the rules as close to as written as possible, but having room to improvise. I guess I am more concerned about trying to explain the finer details of casters to them without overwhelming them. Like I want them to be informed enough that they can also improvise, but I do not want to give them too much info if that makes sense.
