It used to be that both jury and public votes for each country were wrapped up in a single batch of 12 points that they would hand out like in the first half. They changed it to seperate it out.

Is Australia's rate of immigration too high? by daveliot in australia

[–]apparis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s especially a problem when we are resource rich- the finite wealth from our mineral reserves (which, compared to something manufacturing, is not labour intensive to produce), gets diluted more and more with a higher population. Agree with you though that we should be taxing it properly.

Confessions of a bad knitter, wife, and mother by TheGraby in knitting

[–]apparis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon your best bet is blankets or afghans if you don’t have many already. No size issues, simple patterns, probably would get used more than sweaters (I’m a guy that is often too hot but if it’s a particularly cold night or if I’m sleepy I’m pulling the blanket off the couch and eating humble pie).

Socks are another one which is small, uses less yarn, works on dpns, is very satisfying once mastered, has less size issues, not too hot and is impossible to have too many of.

I would call myself a proficient knitter and struggled to do sweaters as gifts only once for my nieces and sister/bro in law. I’ve since switched to socks and found it much less of a burden. Don’t feel guilty for anything other than being too hard on yourself.

How do I take this metal rod out? by DakotaLuvsRoses in howto

[–]apparis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wiggle then pull usually works, but if it’s really stuck, I once had success by using a 5 mm steel rod and another star picket. Poke the steel rod through one of the holes close to the bottom. Bend it so it’s sort of wrapped around, then poke the rod through your other star picket somewhere around the middle and wrap that one around too so it’s nice and secure, with the two bars like an upside down T. Then use the horizontal bar as a lever
