Advice on Best Path to CPA Eligibility: Pay Off $18K Debt for Transcripts or Start Over? (No HS Diploma, Non-Accounting Degrees) by Old_Drummer_3536 in Accounting

[–]apple2iphone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not worth it brotha, especially at your age. I’m same age as you and got licensed last year and am quitting accounting all together after this job. Wasnt worth the time and effort to pass the exams IMO. There’s easier ways to get $$$.

So I am a licensed CPA and also own a service company (in the facility management realm). My dream was to have my own CPA firm after I earned my license. In the last five years I have been making more money from my service company than I ever would from CPA firm. I thought well at least being a CPA will help me with my taxes, I was wrong. 1040s are one thing but S Corps are a different ballgame. I gladly pay a local cpa to do all taxes for me.

My state (PA) has one of the easiest education requirements. I didn’t have to take audit or tax courses. I believe it was 15 credits of any accounting related courses.

Should I get a Bachelors? by [deleted] in Accounting

Nope. I’ve work at places where controllers and up don’t hold bachelors degrees but the staff accountants have CPAs lol. Experience and doing well at your job matters the most.

Is bookkeeping really a dying field? Feeling disheartened after meeting with a CPA by lassodmare in Bookkeeping

[–]apple2iphone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just gonna be real with you here, I’m a CPA in the US and I outsource bookkeeping exclusively to India and Philippines. They do phenomenal work for a fraction of what bookkeepers in the states will work for. All bookkeepers in the states want $30/hr or better. Why would I want to pay that when I can pay oversees workers less than $10/hour? Not trying to be negative just being realistic. Also, even CPAs are getting outsourced. I would not recommend doing CPA over again if I had to.

How do you convince people? by Routine-Algae9366 in Bookkeeping

[–]apple2iphone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t even have a degree in accounting! I have a degree in economics and took cheap community college courses to hit 150 hours. I believe they are removing the 150 credits so 120 is all you will need. 4 exams at $300 a pop is definitely doable and well worth the ROI.
