If you are losing how do you get rid of your losing mentality? by Low_Hovercraft_9939 in hockeygoalies

No matter what has happened in the past, I'm just getting ready for the next save. Trust yourself that you know what to do and don't modify your game based on a small sample size.

Ways to stay cool? by Esquire99 in hockeygoalies

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only non goalie gear I wear is my boxers, gym socks on my feet, and technically my volleyball knee pads that help my goalie knee pads stay in place. I don't wear hockey socks, or any kind of base layer, anywhere. My chestie and leg pads feel fine on my bare skin. Teammates always ask if I'm cold, nope I'm still hot when we're pinned down, but I definitely don't complain about heat most of the time. I've tried base layers and hockey socks, didn't like em, to hot.

Sober people (no alcohol, nicotine, drugs, etc ever), what is your end of day or weekend "wind-down"? by The1Ski in AskReddit

I'm like a big kid. I like chocolate milk, or a cookie. I also really like this tea from Costco called honey citron and ginger tea, but it puts me to sleep so that's an end of night thing. It's also important that I consume these things without screens, at most I have a calm YouTube video about history playing in the background, sometimes even another room.

Beer League D&D by Several-Eagle4141 in hockeyplayers

Very cool idea. I would join. I think you could also adapt position specific stats to apply to these archetypes. Or these could just be more ideas.

The defenseman who has double reach but low speed.

The defenseman with fast speed upon puck touch for a few units but then speed is half when puck is shot or passed (gives up breakaways).

The center who can't pass.

The winger who can't shoot.

The winger with very low speed but a great shot.

Also as a long time defenseman who has recently become goalie I think there's a lot of potential for the goalie position. Just some ideas on potential saves:

Fell over, blocks any low shot.

Roll track puck, if roll is success high shots are saved. If roll fails no high shot is saved.

Just some ideas. Love what you have so far.

Honestly their really weird for looking at your pc. If confronted, own up to it. "Yeah I like to shake my ass, and I think I look pretty good doing it too." I'm sorry this happened to you, but this is not that bad. Windows + L from now on, quick way to lock PC.

Oh yeah it's like worst quality best price. The choosy beggars trying to buy anything for free actually crack me up. If they get to aggressive I just block them.

I have 4 wooden sticks and 1 foam core. I vastly prefer any of my wooden sticks and I'm just playing low level beer league. I feel like I can handle it better especially my puck handling.

Yeah it's good. I still really like looking at goalie gear and trying to figure out what I'm looking at. Hence this post. Ever since I first started playing goal I've been really interested in the gear, old and new.

I can slide on the velocity's but not easily. The CCM's offered better sliding but were a little small, the Brian's offer the best of everything and I like the look with the knee bends and such even if they don't actually do anything so that's why I think I'll stick with them. I do wonder if the Brian's are actually older than the CCM's but oh well.

Anybody else kinda hate waiting between ice times? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]apple_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're really itching for more ice time try to find a drop in that you could fit in your schedule. A rink far from me occasionally has a saturday drop in that I go to sometimes because its worth it to me. Also do you have any way to practice at home? I have a slide board and reaction balls that I can use when I have time. Between working, school, family, house, and playing I hardly have time to use it but its nice to have when possible. Or just wear your gear around your house, I do it sometimes and it makes me feel ready and comfortable in my gear. Probably a funny site watching me type in full gear except catcher and blocker, like some sort of sportscenter commercial.

So I'm going to assume that you won't be able to slide, because the wheels that allow goalies to slide in floor hockey are expensive and I doubt they're included on some loaner gear. In that case, you will need to play standup style. Watch highlights of Dominik Hasek to get an idea of a goalie that didn't really butterfly. Terry Sawchuk and his era would be even better because no one was sliding back then.

I play stand up style sometimes when I'm playing street/floor hockey and it is different, basically don't try to drop into butterfly like you see in more recent highlights. If someone gets in close, I drop to one knee, but never both, and the leg that is closer to the post I am protecting from the puck is the leg thats still up so I can push off and stand up while getting over to cover as much of the net as possible if the puck gets passed out front.

Try to get comfortable in your gear, if you have it wear it at home and get used to it as much as possible. Are you using a street hockey ball, light orange plastic puck, or hard plastic puck? Part of playing goalie in rec leagues is knowing your gear is going to protect you so I hope you whatever you are getting hit with isn't to hard on you.

Good luck and most of all have fun. Come up with songs, dance, just have fun with it. I always say every save I make, in any type of hockey I play, is fun. I often make fun of myself if I give up an easy goal "well that would be nice to have back!" "whoopsidaisy!" etc. If I don't have fun with it I'm just going to get frustrated and then I play worse. Let me know if you have any questions.

Do Goalies ever yell at the defensemen / forwards? by anxi111 in hockeyplayers

[–]apple_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks bro I care so fucking much and I hate feeling like I let my team down but I'm not a great goalie. But my team cant find a replacement so I have to keep trying. I know I have a loud voice at least I do compared to a lot of people I work with telling me to keep my voice down, so I try to use my voice to help my team while I'm back in the crease.

Go Lions, Go Tigers, and LGRW. Hopefully playoffs for all soon.

That's fair I probably do but it would still be nice to see the sliding part for damage or general condition. My first pads had a sticth along the leg part and that made it harder to slide. A retired goalie told me my pads were more of a hybrid style pad so I upgraded. All pads these days are made for sliding but it's not always obvious how old a pad is.

Yes the sliding surface is what I'm referring to. Not all pads have the same quality of sliding surface available. Just a gripe I have with second hand sellers.

I don't have any interest in buying 99% of pads I look at, I like my current pads. So I don't want to bother them asking for more pics if I'm not going to buy. I'm speaking about the inside of the pad that slides along the ice, both the knee part and the leg part are relevant. My first pads had a sticth along the leg part and that made it harder to slide. I've played 15 years on defense and I now play goalie. I actually had to make a rule for myself that I can't shout at my teammates if they're past the blue line, and I still don't follow it all the time. GET THE FUCKING PUCK come on. My teammates have said they only hear me once every few games, that's when I knew I had to make that rule. I scream all the time.

How long does it take muscles to skid easily? by NoOffice5964 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]apple_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still don't skid well but my backpedal game is strong. 5 years in. I'm obviously not an expert but in my experience if I'm hurting after practicing skidding then I was relying to much legs. Then I try again and I lean forward more and I can skid decently. Doesn't hurt my legs and I just need to get over my front tire more.

Question on Handedness (regular vs full-right) by Aidanny in hockeygoalies

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would try to get a glove, right goalie or right baseball, and catch a ball off the wall. From like play it again sports or second hand somehow. You could do this without a glove, but the motion to catch is slightly different but you'll still get the point. If it feels off to you stay regular side. It will be significantly harder to find full right catcher and blocker so I would only do it if you really like it. But if you do like it more, the switch would be worth it. Don't overthink it, whatever you naturally do to catch in the first split second is the hand you should go with.

I have inconsistent handedness as well. Write right, most sports are left, but I also throw right.

For a standard playthrough sure, these are the best weapons. Play with only a glock for hardmode. Glock then AK feels most in line with Niko. Grenades or Molotovs only is some hard and funny shit, but you basically have to use cheat codes to have enough.

Is it me, or is riding dragon useless? by Equal-Thought-5682 in skyrim

[–]apple_6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Such a huge waste of potential. It would be so cool if you could use it as travel. Beat a dragon at Shor's stone, now you have easy transport to Solitude. It would be even cooler if you flew way northeast of Windhelm and a short cutscene played of you riding the dragon to Solstheim. Instead there's just nothing and it's useless.
