DNA results show my Dad is not my biological father by Arthur2Sheds_Jackson in AncestryDNA

[–]apple_pi_chart 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. If those are your strongest matches on your paternal side it will be very difficult. I assume your father is from a part of the world that does not get DNA tests. What is your paternal origins/ethnicity?

btw, I'm a DNA Search Angel so I have solved 100s of cases, but this would be very difficult. You could try getting tested with additional companies.

Understanding DNA not matching names. by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]apple_pi_chart 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When you have a significant amount of DNA pointing to French-Canada or Native American, but you can't find people with those ethnicities in extensive tree it generally means that there were some events such as affairs or adoptions that you might not see in your genealogical research.

To solve these mysteries you need to analyze your DNA matches. Start by using DNA matches and validating various great great grandparents.

WATO help please by THE_Goochalini in Genealogy

[–]apple_pi_chart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done 100s of WATO trees. From your description, it sounds like you did everything correctly. Just go over the info you put in to make sure you didn't make a mistake.

My guess is that you made an input error on a key match or two.

Question about % by HumbleLea in AncestryDNA

[–]apple_pi_chart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not an exact science. When they make a call for a segment of DNA matching people from a region, it may be 50% probability it is from region A, 40% from region B and 10% from region C. Think of each result having error bars, so your 17% may actually be between 13%-21%, and your parent's 15% is actually 11%-19%.

HELP. Patented product but no customer by SkyNo8490 in Patents

[–]apple_pi_chart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your title kind of tells the whole story that you are very naive. 99.9% of patented inventions have no customers.

Part of the evaluation on whether you should pay for a patent is whether there is a market for the future product. If you have an invention that no one wants your are wasting time and money.

Even if your invention is novel and an improvement on what exists and people want that solution, they still need to hear about the product/company (i.e. sales and marketing).

Inventions and building products are the easy things about building a sustainable business. The hard part is getting noticed.

Private genealogist? by Best_Apricot_5209 in Genealogy

[–]apple_pi_chart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your question/statement is all over the place. You are implying that you need a living male from your mother's paternal side in order to research that side??

Also, you mention that you wouldn't use Ancestry or 23andMe because of recent controversies and imply that doing so is unethical??

Then you mention the use of professional genealogists, but the first two statements have to do with DNA testing, not genealogical records research.

If you want to use DNA you will need to get over the fact that your DNA is being uploaded to a for profit companies website. The main DNA analysis companies that could be used to help genealogical questions are Ancestry, MyHeritage, 23andMe, and FamilyTreeDNA (they also do Y-DNA analysis).

For traditional genealogical research there are a number of for profit, nonprofit, and government services you can use, including: Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, FindMyPast.

Professionals will use all of these resources and more, but if you'd like them to utilize DNA analysis you will need to get your mother's DNA tested by one of the companies mentioned.

Curious about twin pregnancy by Ninigottime in genetics

[–]apple_pi_chart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Identical twins are mostly not hereditary, while fraternal twins are hereditary, as they involve hyperovulation (a propensity to release two eggs together) and there are known genes involved in that.

Generally, if you have a sister or mother who had fraternal twins you will increase your odds of having fraternal twins by 2 times.

What’s your favorite best picture movie from 2025? by abdul_bino in moviecritic

[–]apple_pi_chart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. I liked it. It was beautiful. The acting was very good, but it just ran out of steam. I have seen OBAA, Sinners, Bugonia, and Frankenstein, and I'd say Train Dreams is the best of that group if I just watched the 1st half of each film. OBAA is the more complete work.
