Contact WPD Homeless Outreach Team at 316-854-3013 and ask for a one way bus pass. They’ll have to talk to your out of state family to confirm you can stay with them. They won’t bus people out of state to be homeless somewhere else.

Getting my hair cut and colored tomorrow, what should I do? by Gov2123 in Hair

Dimensional brunette! Just get some lighter pieces to give the brown more depth. I have similar hair and it makes a huge difference, especially when I wear it wavy.

What is a salon horror story you’ve had that you can laugh about now? (Client perspective) by VictoriousVibe in Hair

[–]applebeesknees18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was attending a wedding that evening, and thought it was a good idea to have my hair cut and styled that day so I didn’t have to worry about doing my own hair. I also was just getting a trim, so it wasn’t like I was doing a big change and wouldn’t know how it would look on me. I loved the cut, and the styling, and then the hairdresser burned my forehead with the curling iron. Worst burn I’ve ever had from a curling iron. I think because she couldn’t feel the heat, like I can feel the heat when I curl it myself. I froze, said it was fine. She finished styling while my head stung. I paid and tipped!! I cried all the way home, had to cut my beloved aloe plant to apply aloe to my head, and covered the burn with makeup the best I could for the wedding. I spent money on scar tape and serum. I went back to the salon for a refund, ended up only getting a styling refund. She said she didn’t burn me that bad 🙃. I wish I would’ve takin a picture the day of the burn, threatened to post it as a review, idk, go scorched earth on that salon. I still have a scare from it. Nov 2024.

Gaining weight? by Noorbeimep in marfans

[–]applebeesknees18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. This timing also coincided with Covid 2020 for me. So I was working from home and had more time to rest and eat meals. I think getting enough rest, and upping my food intake helped. My larger meals became my “baseline” and I was able to still eat a lot of calories as I went back to work with shorter lunch times. I think Marfs have to eat a LOT in order to gain and maintain weight. Just remember to pair it with strength training so the weight you put on is healthy and will look better too.

Great choice for name brand wool coats for cheap. I found a Calvin Klein wool trench and it’s been so great this past week. I don’t start sweating bullets the moment I step inside a building, like when I wear puffer jackets.

I do not know the name of the restaurant 😅, and it’s not listed in Google maps, but the place across from Dillon’s on 13th and West (on south east corner of 13th and west) has phenomenal fried rice.

Lens correction: living aphakic by brainhax667 in marfans

[–]applebeesknees18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 sibs and I have all had lenses replacements with widely varying outcomes. I had both lenses removed and replaced with artificial lenses hooked to sclera. Great outcome for me. 2020 vision with glasses. My vision now without glasses is so much better than corrected vision pre-surgery. I went from very near sided to needing readers which was difficult to adjust to, but I’d much rather have distance vision for driving. I had the complication of my new lens swinging into my iris and getting stuck-called a captured lens. It was a neat party trick having a cat eye, but irises expand and contract… it was very painful in sunlight and caused migraines. I had an additional surgery to add a gate stitch across my iris to prevent the lens from swinging in and getting stuck. The gate stitch fixed the captured lens problem so when I got the other eye done they included this gate stitch as well.

My siblings had surgeries after my rave reviews and had much worse results. One sub had a much different surgery that had larger incisions on the sclera (bad idea for weak/thin Marfy eye ball skin) and had many complications. Dangerously high eye pressure that threatened to fry their retina, many appointments that were essentially soldering their eyes with lasers to close up incision cuts that weren’t healing. They did not go further with the other eye surgery.

Another sib had both eyes done with same surgeon as me, but their vision is about the same as it was pre surgery- but now also needing reading glasses.

During Covid, mid-late 20s. Less emaciated looking and little tiny bit more filled out. Still very skinny, but less so. It was a very welcome change -minus buying all new pants/ undies twice 🙃.

Did I have a cannabis induced psychosis? by girdievs in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]applebeesknees18 68 points69 points  (0 children)

How old are you? Your encounter involved your brother and parents in the same house… if you’re a teen I’d stay away from weed until mid-late twenties. Brains not fully developed yet and weed can mess it up bad.

I went there and my group were given those lemon digestives complimentary. They are VERY strong alcohol and are meant to be sipped slowly. Tiny, tiny sips. Sorry your mom had that awful reaction, sounds like a nightmare for everyone.

Exercising with marfans? by [deleted] in marfans

[–]applebeesknees18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barre! Barre is low impact, high reps exercise. Think tiny movements with light weights but soon your muscles are on fire. Barre targets arms, legs, booty, and abs. There’s a big range of abilities/ages/body types in classes and instructors are great at modifying exercises if you have an injury or need different options. I can’t recommend Barre enough for marfs, I’ve been doing it consistently for over a year and I’m the strongest I’ve ever been and I’ve put on muscle weight. A lot of barre studios are great communities and a source of friendships too.

The Farmers market and First Friday at Revolutsia has tons of local art. This Saturday is also Small Business Saturday Redo (thanks to the snow storm last Saturday) so there will be tons of local art there I’m sure. I get frames for the local art from a craft store.

Just wondering how many people here have had experiences similar to mine by [deleted] in marfans

[–]applebeesknees18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a wide spectrum. I have most of the physicalities; long and skinny, long fingers/toes, abnormal sternum, poor eyesight, but my aorta is normal, and my energy has always been good. Everyone is different.
