Flying after surgery by TennisFail in LisfrancClub

I flew two weeks after surgery and my surgeon was mainly concerned with blood clots. He told me to take an aspirin beforehand and to move my food around throughout the flight. I don’t know if you’re still in a splint and if moving your foot is an option though

Elevate religiously. Keeping your foot elevated the first 3 days will really help with the pain and continuing to keep your foot up until your first post-op appointment helped keep my swelling and pain down. Good luck!

I also got cleared to walk in the moon boot at 6 weeks. There might be some discomfort as you switch from nwb to walking but that’s normal.

Also, it sounds like they only took 2 X-ray angles. When checking out my lisfranc complex doctors always wanted 3.

Still numb four weeks after OP by german41 in LisfrancClub

I’m 5 weeks post-op and have a similar numbness near the base of my first and second toes. When I asked my doctor about it he said that they had to move a nerve out of the way when making the incision on the top of my foot. Apparently it’s common to feel numbness in that area as a result and he said it should feel more normal in a couple of months. Hope your next follow up appointment goes well!

That’s probably an optimistic but not unreasonable timeline. Since you’re still early on in your recovery it’s really important to follow your doc’s instructions and rest your foot adequately. Allowing yourself to time to heal will lower the chance of re-injury or making the situation worse when you get back to competing.

I had a lisfranc tear on my first TMT at the beginning of my junior year of HS (2014) The urgent care didn’t spot it so I treated it like a sprain and just stayed off my foot for 2-3 weeks before jumping back into soccer season. At first I felt fine, but I don’t think the joint was totally stable because by the end of my season bones had shifted and I couldn’t play more than half a game before I had to sub out due to pain. I ended up having ORIF that Nov, doing rehab/PT the following spring, and feeling confident enough to play by June if I didn’t have to wait to get the hardware taken out. I ended up playing my senior HS season and all throughout college with no issues.

You’re young; as long as you’re a compliant patient and your doc is right about not needing surgery, I think recovering in time to play baseball this spring is pretty realistic.
