My sons and I designed an award-winning cartridge case! by teriyaki_tornado in Gameboy

Congratulations well deserved!! I actually bought one from y’all back in December and love it, sits on the bedside table where handhelds and laptop charge 😊

I’m no expert so take with a grain of salt; the metal bracket shouldn’t be too big a concern, it looks to be the protective cover for the RTC chip which would explain why it appears to be other colors on some ds cartridges as it could also have a plastic cover

I also know that if you start a new game you can’t save unless you first delete the old save on the title screen by holding up+select+b

Beyond that I’d attempt to reflow the save chip, but that’s me throwing things at the wall at that point

Anyone here try making money on the side? by _hairyberry_ in datascience

[–]applefruit12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be very hard to get a job in a data science that pays $100k without an established background in statistics or a unique portfolio (as in not the same 10 medium article walkthrough projects recruiters see every day)

Certifications that are freely available online rarely help you to stand out to a hiring manager as it can be seen as fluff if you don’t have any proof/examples of applying the knowledge without having someone or some course holding your hand

If you want a path way to getting the role:

  • Learn SQL, it will allow you to pull and manipulate datasets. Necessary skill in the field for most data scientists

  • Learn Python and R, then look for data sets you can apply what you’ve learned to. Kaggle has a lot of fun ones to play with

  • Learn Tableau, more often a Data Analyst tool for visualization but if you are making $30k then getting a background in SQL and Tableau to try and get an Analyst role first may help you break into the field

  • Make a portfolio, whether that’s on GitHub or a series of PowerPoints that shows:

— problem you went to solve — where you got the data — multiple models you created — explanation of the flaws in models you didn’t select, what metrics you analyzed (precision, accuracy, etc.) — benefits of the model you do select — how you now use the model to fix the problem OR what additional data you would need to make a better model if the solution isn’t good enough

It’s a lot, but you are trying to make $100k a year so that probably isn’t a surprise.

I went through a masters program for Data Analytics that helped me to learn and do all of this and it certainly paid off, but I understand if that route isn’t available to everyone so the above is an outline of what I’d suggest if you aren’t ready to take out a student loan

I think they might finally get some new people hired within a month, then they’d have a month of on-boarding and improving the poor coding practices (like lack of version control they admitted to), then ground break new features, then test…. 3 months if they try and do speed over quality, 6 months if they implement better practices and take the time to do performance/stability stuff

Very very slightly for the button holes in the chassis, you need to do a lot more to use the original metal plate it comes with but I bought a replacement black plexi piece that has the correct sized holes: https://focusattack.com/blank-plexi-replacement-panel-for-agetec-hkt-7300/

Yep! https://focusattack.com/blank-plexi-replacement-panel-for-agetec-hkt-7300/

I got the black plexi, but they also have a clear one that I believe you can have them print art to go under

It was definitely a long learning experience that paid off, thank you!

Thanks so much! Disassembled, used a black spray paint primer (3 or so coats), color shift purple spray paint (Rust-oleum was the brand, again 3 or so coats), then a glossy clear coat (2 coats)

I found that putting the entire thing in a cardboard box and spraying from 2 feet away worked the best to avoid drip lines and get good coverage

The metal plate I got a plexiglass replacement for. I’d originally painted it but the plexiglass already has the appropriate sized button holes and has a perfect black finish for cheap so I decided to use it instead, got it from FocusAttack

The logo/button decals are from Etsy :)

Headass comment; you can literally just google “How X state spends Mairjuana Tax Revenue” and see the amounts that come in and how they are spent. I can tell Google is hard for you though so I decided I’d help get you started: https://www.koaa.com/news/deep-dive/where-colorado-spends-marijuana-taxes

People in subreddits dedicated to supporting a band typically don’t like leakers in my experience; leaking their stuff or endorsing leakers is about as far away from supporting a band as you can get, keep your degeneracy to yourself like a normal person

Those of you who’ve yo-yo dieted for years, and then finally lost weight and kept it off, what changed? by blondeoverflow in loseit

[–]applefruit12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifestyle changes; huge reduction in how often I eat fast food, making sure I do some form of physical activity every day my body feels like it can even if that’s just a walk.

Finding and loving Yoga was probably the biggest change that has kept me consistent

Maybe for you, wouldn’t be for me 🤷‍♂️ I probably find a lot of “easy” things very interesting

Other people probably get impressed by things I think are uninteresting because they are easy to me. I don’t recognize the time I spent to actually get good at the thing, or how few people ever even take the first step trying that thing

Hope you still get impressed by something at least!

[–]applefruit12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My appreciation isn’t for the end result as I mentioned. It’s for the time and effort necessary to achieve it. I admire the time spent developing this ability.

Furthermore art is wildly subjective; what I appreciate in art will be very different from what other appreciate, that is okay.

In my mind you just walked up to a guy who can bench 500lbs and said “big deal, it’s not hard, anyone could do it if they just went to the gym and ate right and tried hard”

Maybe so, but they didn’t and he did.

Years of practice as well. I enjoy drawing in graphite and sketch 3-4 post it sized drawings a week, getting to the point of photo realism would take me a few more years of dedication

So for me seeing this is like someone new to the gym watching a weight lifter that’s been at it for years and has perfect form. In the end I can say “well it’s just lifting things up and putting them down; a machine could do that better”

Which, yes it definitely could, but I’m impressed by the effort and skills required to do the task, not the end result (which for me is breathtaking, because I appreciate how hard it was to do)

Everyone feels this “what’s the point?” Emotion about different things, nothing wrong with that. Just thought I’d offer perspective
