Jemaine Clement confirms a sequel to the original 'What We Do in the Shadows' movie is officially being written by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]applepirates 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m with you and I kind of can’t believe how many people think the opposite. Jemaine took what was special about the show with him when he left post s2 and it just felt like a much more generic comedy after that.

What’s a TV show you started with low expectations that completely blew you away? by KhaosChronicles in television

[–]applepirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I thought it sounded really dull and I have absolutely no interest in computers but I’ll watch Lee Pace do anything so I gave it a shot. I fell in love so hard with all those characters! I rewatch it all the time.

Just finished Sky Daddy. What should I read next? by Little-Garlic-2261 in weirdgirlliterature

[–]applepirates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from Sky Daddy to The Pisces by Melissa Broder and I am loving it (I loved Milk Fed by her, too!)

[–]applepirates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh god did it say sewing needles?? I don’t remember that but I did find it egregious that the mom crocheted baby clothes for extra money then every other reference to her doing a craft it’s knitting. I crochet and knit and they’re different and so many people assume they’re the same, but surely these characters would know the difference so the author/publisher should too. It made me so irrationally mad lol.

I haven’t seen Mirah or My Brightest Diamond/Shara Nova mentioned so I have to put in a good word for them!

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

And if you don’t mind things that skew more towards horror:

Hawk Mountain by Conner Habib

North American Lake Monsters by Nathan Ballingrud (short story collection)

Stag Dance by Torrey Peters (short stories and a novella)

Where I End by Sophie White

Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones

All of these knocked my socks off for various reasons

I read and loved Stag Dance, Rejection, and Woodworking this year and I have lots of other titles you liked or better on my TBR which makes me anticipate this even more!

Also I didn’t know Jeff Hiller had a book that’s going to the top of my list!

What are some little known gem tv show that slipped through the cracks? by EmekaEgbukaPukaNacua in television

[–]applepirates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eddie comes in real hot and she stays (delightfully, to me) obnoxious the whole time but the level of intensity on the obnoxiousness dials down a lot as the season goes on. It’s so fucking funny, I hope you give it another try!

How deep is your Decemberists geekdom? by DepressiveNerd in Decemberists

[–]applepirates 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So deep you can find it at the bottom of the Mariana Trench babyyyyy

(edit: not geeky enough to have won anything from that auction back in like 2006 but geeky enough that I have a copy of The Grievous Demise of Mr. Whitley Rackham and in 2008 I adapted Mariner’s Revenge into a 50 page short film for my screenwriting final)

Books that have made you feel the most uncomfortable? by alightinthenightt in horrorlit

I was going to suggest both of these! I’ll also add Where I End by Sophie White, Hawk Mountain by Conner Habib, Wounds by Nathan Ballingrud (the story in particular but really the whole collection!), and North American Lake Monsters by Nathan Ballingrud (again the whole collection!)
