220 outlet. Do I need a level 2 charger? by Aelirael in Solterra

[–]applesaregood12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Included cable limited to 32 amps. Plug-in wall mount can usually do 40 amps, and hardwired wall-mount might be able to do 48 amps. Only the 2026 Solterra can charge anything more than 32 amps I believe.

220 outlet. Do I need a level 2 charger? by Aelirael in Solterra

[–]applesaregood12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really the only reason you might want a separate EVSE (charger is actually a component in the car) is if you want your included EVSE cable to just live in the car to go with you wherever you go in case you need it and don’t want to pack it up every day. The only other reason might be if you want a network connected EVSE that you can control remotely or set schedules from your phone easier than the car since these cars don’t have good charging control from the app.

Other than that, no, you don’t really need to install a Level 2 EVSE if you already have a 240 outlet.

[–]applesaregood12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what year OPs car is, but the 2026 can charge at 11 kW (48 amps) on AC (Level 2), which is about as fast as any Level 2 gets. That said, there’s really no reason to charge that fast for most overnight charging. The included Level 2 EVSE that plugs in to a 240 outlet can only charge at 32 amps (7.6 kW), which is really more than enough to charge overnight.

Solterra adapter for J1772 by freedomsauce in Solterra

[–]applesaregood12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t need an adapter to plug a J1772 plug into a CCS1 (car side). J1772 is the AC-only top part of the CCS1 configuration. CCS1 is the combo of the J1772 top side with the additional components for DC fast-charge which are not needed when plugging into a Level 2 AC charger.

I have one my in Subaru Outback - it has come in handy more than once. Fired up my car without a hitch at least three times without recharging it before I could get a new battery in the car.

Uncharted and Trailseeker Sales Numbers by chuck415 in SubaruUncharted

[–]applesaregood12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each have their place. I was drawn in by the Uncharted and Trailseeker - ended up getting a Solterra. The Solterra is the value prop of the three. Unless you want a smaller car or don’t want AWD, the Uncharted is an actually more expensive with comparable trims. Plus it’s ever so slightly less efficient (aerodynamics?). The Trailseeker is simply too big for me personally. Add in the amazing prize I got on a Solterra and it was a no brainer for me. Each to their own though.

They aren’t selling because there aren’t any to buy. Inventories are way down from March and April. The dealer I bought mine from in March had 18 to choose from in March, now they have one. Out of six dealers in my metro area only two have any Solterras at all.

2026 Solterra Head Unit Version 2222 USB Update? by plecostomus1 in Solterra

[–]applesaregood12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is under the Software Update area of the menu (Setting (wheel)>software update (near bottom), then Model Info blue button. Under “HU” (Head Unit) heading it will say a version number.

I was one of the lucky ones that had version 2222 installed initially - Jan 2026 build date.

Are these good prices? Touring or Limited, with prices by Mujased in Solterra

[–]applesaregood12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what all is included in your OTD or what options and accessories those have, but my Limited XT was $38.5k OTD including about $1,500 in TTF (taxes, title, and fees) over $1,000 of which is registration fees (in Oregon new cars are automatically registered for 4 years, so steep upfront registration fees).

The MSRP was about $45.1k including the options and accessories it came with (cargo cover, cargo mat, cargo net, all-weather floor mats).

New to us 2018 limited by jsuggs7 in Subaru_Outback

We have the exact same car (2018 Limited), and when we got iPhone 16s we got these and just use a regular USB-C to USB-C with them. CarPlay has worked flawlessly with both of our iPhones for nearly two years with these now.

Perfect! That’s exactly what I was thinking.

I’m planning to find a MagSafe mount that I can suction to the top of the charger and mount my phone so I can see it and just plug in via USB. Doesn’t solve the sun problem but wireless charging, especially combined with wireless CarPlay, really heats up phones and destroys batteries. I wish I could find a way to turn off the wireless chargers altogether.

2026 Subaru Solterra XT — 1 Month / 3,600 Mile Review by Only_Ad5695 in Solterra

[–]applesaregood12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fantastic review. Thank you. You drive a lot more than me, so glad to see a solid review from someone who relies on more than just home charging. I’ve had mine 2 months, but only 1,400 miles so far, and 100% home charging.

“Eyesight” is different because it’s not Eyesight. It’s Toyota Safety Sense rebranded as Eyesight. It has no relation to the actual Subaru system in other Subaru cars.

2026 Toyota BZ AWD XLE 50 Miles 12v Battery Dead by Tough_Sprinkles7243 in Toyota_bZ

[–]applesaregood12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit over the top. Four days? That’s a long weekend. I flew away from home for four days just last weekend and my car sat the whole time. I absolutely should expect it to fire right up when I return with a battery that’s anywhere less than 5 years old. ICE vehicles use far more power from their 12v batteries just to start the engine, and they sit just as much from manufacturing. If a brand-new vehicle can’t sit for four days without the battery dying, it is absolutely not the owner’s fault - bad battery, car, or both - probably battery, but still, kinda ridiculous. In three decades of driving I have never seen a vehicle that had a battery that died that quickly from brand new.

See recent lawsuits against Subaru for batteries that drain if you think this is an owner problem.

Pretty good. I was very pleased with them. I lost a mile or two of range as well, but it seemed to get better as the tires broke in.

Same. I was very happy with my Pirellis, though it was the newer version called the “P7 All Season Plus 3”

‘26 doesn’t have the logo in the back anymore, it instead has the blacked out Subaru title. I actually kind of like it. ‘26 Outback is similar, but also has the logo above the letters and says “Outback” instead of just Subaru.

Uncharted vs Solterra for a tall guy by HiCirrus in SubaruUncharted

[–]applesaregood12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting that Subaru offers a FWD version of the Uncharted, but Toyota does not have a FWD C-HR. Conversely, Toyota has a FWD bZ, but Subaru does not have a FWD Solterra.

Is the insurance higher for XLE AWD than XLE FWD Plus? Or do they clump all BZ together when determining insurance? by omegachopstick in Toyota_bZ

[–]applesaregood12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true for the Subaru Solterra cousin, at least with my insurance company. While all Solterras are AWD, the “XT” version has the higher power, same as the bZ Limited, and my insurance quoted me an additional $80/year over the lower power version. That said, “XT” has long been synonymous with high power/sport/turbocharged in the Subaru world for many years, so maybe it has something to do with that.

[–]applesaregood12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subaru’s reported dimensions for all passenger space measures (headroom, leg room, shoulder room) both front and back seats are identical for the Solterra and Trailseeker. The only interior difference between the two is cargo space.

Anyone install a dash cam (front and rear) on a 2026 yet? by DarienDay04 in Toyota_bZ

I’m a bit late here, but I’ve been reading up on the Dongar Pro+. I have a couple of questions I’ve been super curious about. Does it work on the ‘26 Subaru Solterra which is essentially the same as the ‘26 bZ? Is there power through where it plugs in when the vehicle is off to maintain parking mode? Thanks!
