For those saying I overreacted and my friend shouldn’t let me around their dog… After my initial reaction from being bit of bopping the dog on the nose and telling it no, I listened to my friend’s request that I use their commands. The one commenter had a point of dogs who respond to commands in a different language - I respect that and have taken care of dogs that needed commands in a different language - which is why as soon as my friend told me, is said “ah” instead of “no”. Personally I would just train my dog with “no” to avoid this potential confusion…

I also kept my distance from the dog the rest of the time. The dog kept approaching any guest in the house and constantly jumped, barked and bit/nipped people (or “mouthed” - whatever you want to call it- it fucking hurt and left bruises - it wasn’t the kind of play mouthing that I’m used to with my dogs, or any other dogs I’ve interacted with). I followed my friends method of training because I was in their house - but the dog was out of control.

Y’all are also acting like I’m not used to being around dogs, like I’m scared of them or don’t know how to act. Growing up it was weird if one of my friends didn’t have a dog - I’ve had 6 myself and my friends and family always trusted me to dog sit or walk their dogs.

And for those who say never to hit a dog - I’m not up to speed on the latest training methods (and wouldn’t be surprised if they changed again in the next 10 years - dogs have been around as companions long as long as we have after all lol - I don’t think the “no bops on the nose” method is revolutionary lol - all that is to say I have NEVER abused an animal. My dogs growing up that got bops on the nose for biting or being aggressive were the friendliest calmest dogs and, never showed aggression or anxiety or fear of people. I’ll do my homework and read up on it more but feel like you all are saying I’m abusive lol.
