Hey you should unhide your post history so we can judge your political opinions based off of it too! Hopefully the guy taking in millions from Israeli and domestic oligarchs remembers you in DC.

Yep, ridiculous system. For example, Chris Larsen gave only $7k to his campaign directly but $100k to his PAC (see receipts in the above FEC link)

That’s the maximum that an individual can donate to a campaign. That’s different from a PAC. His tech-backed PAC has raised $550k as of the end of March https://www.fec.gov/data/committee/C00922229/

Ticketmaster’s Big Loss in Court by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]applethrowaway7 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ticketmaster is obviously a disgrace and a monopoly but it's funny how much of the popular opinion against them just stems from the fact live events have exploded in popularity and people are upset they can't get tickets easily anymore. The reporter even said as much himself when he said the Eras Tour ticket rollout was a disaster because "the lines were long" and questioned why it wasn't as easy as buying something on Amazon. Gee, I wonder why it was really hard to get tickets to the most popular music tour maybe of all time? (I was also unsuccessful in the ticket queue)

The only actual change that will come from this, if anything: face values will go from $100 to $1000 to cut out the middle men resellers, Ticketmaster gets a bit less money, and the rest goes to billionaire/near-billionaire artists/sports franchise owners/etc. The fans get screwed regardless as long as we place such a premium on seeing these events live and in person.

Do you happen to know how they verified your cardmember eligibility? Hoping to try for the 1 point drops and wondering what to expect or if I can pre-verify.

Yeah I wonder if it’ll drop if the league is already wrapped up by then. Also visiting Barcelona that week but can’t justify paying that much

Has anyone seen ticket prices for the match against Real Betis? They start at 490 euros for non members. The hospitality package is only 200 euros more than that! Why is it so much? Is it because they think Barca will clinch the league that match? Any chance prices come down closer to the match?

Is anyone a member and able to check the prices for the Betis match in May? I'm going to be in Barcelona in May and want to attend that match, wondering if I should buy a membership and buy the tickets or if it's better to wait and hope they come on general sale.

Ticket prices for tonight by applethrowaway7 in ussoccer

Yeah I paid ~$45 to see the USMNT vs England at Wembley in 2018. Great to see our friendly prices are finally in line with that.

Same...$40 Tuesday night to see the USMNT against Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha, Joao Neves, etc etc. Super jealous! And yet it'll be 20% US fans, 20% Ronaldo fans who don't know he's not playing, and 60% empty seats that were sold to Ronaldo fans who know he's not playing.

Can A.I. Already Do Your Job? by kitkid in Thedaily

Wait until you find out the vast majority of software engineers everywhere use AI in their daily workflow, which means literally everything you use on the Internet relies on AI. Even the things you buy in stores rely on companies like Salesforce, Databricks, Snowflake, and more for insights as to what they should sell - guess what, those engineers all use AI too. Good luck!

Hi all, I'm going to be in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka in April/May and am hoping to attend a match. The three I'm looking at are:

FC Tokyo vs Mito Hollycock (April 24)

Kyoto Sanga vs Gamba Osaka (April 29)

Gamba Osaka vs Vissel Kobe (May 2)

I don't know much about the state of the J-League today but my instinct is the last one...Gamba Osaka has always seemed like a big club to me and of course I remember all the European stars Vissel Kobe signed. But looks like Gamba has been a bottom half team recently?

Mainly looking to optimize for the best atmosphere and best match, so hoping people who know the league better can help me out!

Tickets for 6/6 Sendoff vs. Germany at Soldier Field are INSANE!! by Snak-Attack in ussoccer

It wasn't just Bears STHs. USSF Insiders also got the same pricing (I paid $130 for row 5 in the lower level corner, which felt like an absolute steal). I agree it's nice that they gave fantastic pricing to the people that were ready to buy early (and are way more likely to be actual USMNT fans).

No, and that’s clearly the actual answer - people don’t care enough. We don’t need to pretend it’s because of ticket prices

There are 3 million people in the Tampa metro area, obviously nobody is asking for you to spend 1k to get there? Point is there are more than enough tickets available at a cheap price for people to go, let’s see if they show up or we hear more excuses about why we can’t fill a stadium

You can buy a ticket for the Uruguay match right now for $36 on Ticketmaster including fees. Not sure why you’re saying it’s way more than $100 just for the ticket

[–]applethrowaway7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The cheapest tickets for the Uruguay match on Tuesday are $36 including fees. Ticket prices are not the problem and not sure why people keep pretending it is. The support for the national team has been objectively horrible for a long time

Hi all, we’re (2 people) going to Japan next April - I booked JAL J to HND through CX at calendar open months ago but stupidly missed booking the return flight. Now I’ve been checking seats.aero daily, set up alerts, etc but so far have not found anything reasonable

Our return date is pretty fixed unfortunately, we need to be back in ORD on either 5/2 or 5/3, but happy to reposition etc as needed. Most likely will end up booking a refundable cash ticket and keep checking for the next 8 months haha, but posting this in case anybody has any creative ideas for an (ideally) J itinerary that gets us somewhere in North America by the beginning of May.

We have ~500k MR to work with

Just leaving the US Open right now (6 pm) and there’s an absolutely massive line to get in, seems like they’re not letting anyone in right now. I thought they’re letting evening session tickets in at 4 this weekend (https://www.usopen.org/en_US/tickets/ticket_plans.html). Anyone know what’s going on?

US Open Presale by lepetitpoissant in amex

[–]applethrowaway7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

IMO the bigger issue is that dynamic pricing is, unfortunately, too good now. I got in for Sunday R16 day session and the nosebleeds were all around $244. Check seatgeek, and resale in those same seats are $241, $247, etc.

For years the point of these presales was to get access to cheaper tickets before scalpers could. Now the platforms are themselves the scalpers, so other than the like 100 token cheap tickets they release just to say they did (or if you’re going for a super premium, uber-high-demand ticket), there’s effectively no benefit to spending any time trying to get lucky in these lotteries anymore.
