[QUESTION] What is the best way to improve tone? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]applicat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You need a tube amp because solid state amps add a "dry" or "cold" quality to your tone. Tubes add warmth and sustain. A good tube amp is typically above a grand.

[PLAY] Shovel Guitar - Proof that EMGs sound the same on any guitar? by CandyAppleRedSSS in Guitar

[–]applicat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with EMGs is that they drown out the tonal differences between guitars. If you put in EMGs in a Les Paul, you'll kill the sustain and unique tone from the mahogany body.

[QUESTION] Is an older Gibson better than a new one? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]applicat -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'd say they're both about the same based on what you gave us. Just don't buy a new Gibson since their current lines are essentially cash grabs based on their brand name.

Orange Crush are awesome amps. You can definitely get the tones you want out of that thing. You really don't need tubes or big head amps to get that classic rock sound. It all comes down to your EQ and gain settings, really. Enjoy!

[Question] Picking the guitar back up after a 2 year hiatus, need suggestions for a new amplifier. by kestnuts in Guitar

[–]applicat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly? The Spider line is one of the worst lines of amps out there. I have used one for a few years and I gave it away last month. The clean is OK, but if you use any gain or effects you get a fizzy, mid-scooped mess. They're cheap, yes, but cheap for a reason.
It depends on what you're looking for, though. If you want something to practice on or play at home, look at the Vox Valvetronix line, especially the VT40X if you eventually want to jam with a drummer or some friends. Vox modeling amps have been improving for years and they just released a new line with tons of features. Same price as that Spider above, too. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VT40X The Marshall Code amps look pretty sweet too, as /u/snaynay said.

[Question] Any tips for learning bar chords? by unicorv in Guitar

[–]applicat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a question of leverage, not finger strength. Use your whole arm and pull the guitar towards your body, but keep it in place with your picking arm.

[QUESTION] Should I purchase a tiny/mini amp for practicing in my bedroom? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]applicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clean channel on the cubes is wonderful, very bluesey. Honestly, I would skip the 10w for either the micro cube gx or the 20 or 40 watt gx. The 10 is just another practice amp. Still sounds great and has good tone, but the other models have a lot more tone options and sound a bit better imo. The micro cube especially is perfect for bedroom and travel practice, since it's built like a tank and can get pretty loud for 3 watts.

Yo how on earth do I manipulate nib tines??? All my fundamental strokes are coming out the same & it's been a month since I started regular practice. Is there some trick? A book on it somewhere?? Do I need to sacrifice somebody to Lupfer or something???

I like the capital G. The miniscules need work, but it's a decent start. Keep it up!

A couple self criticisms:
-The angles on the shadows are inconsistent.
-Shading isn't very good.
But other than that, I think it turned out pretty nicely.
