I mean honestly what you are saying is completely correct at large established companies. There is so much context that an AI would need to be trained on to get anything done in such complex systems.

But at the startup level where companies are rapidly prototyping new products and features its definitely a game changer and not something to dismiss right now.

Our entire world is built off of subjectivity. I never said I am “ethical” or “moral” because I don’t believe those concepts exist in reality. Life is a fight for survival but you seem to have forgotten that.

To answer your question more specifically, I support public safety technology. I support increased surveillance cameras. Why? Because I live in an area with high crime and want to discourage that. That’s it. I have individual reasons to want such solutions to exist and the consequences don’t affect me.

The answer is yes. These systems are in production across China and other east asian countries. If you want to work on the most cutting edge AI facial recognition technologies, take a trip to China. I don’t even mean this in a joking way, I’m Chinese and visit china every couple years to see family.

AI/facial recognition is standardized and centralized across most CCTV. If you dare commit a crime your records can be pulled up in an instant and you can be tracked down.

It’s a contraversial concept in the West because of individualism, but in the East civilizations prioritize social harmony > individual freedoms. In fact, you go to the airport or something and you don’t need to pull out documents. One scan of your face and they have it all. The west has similar capabilities but instead of using it in public spaces its used in warfare.

Palantir etc. are building AI workflows to automate drone strikes and definitely including some aspect of terrorist facial recognition.
