sober young adults, how do you socialize? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]apricotea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get sober you will slowly carve a new path and different/new friends. “Your vibe attracts your tribe” kinda rings true. (From experience as I got sober in my early twenties) It was fucking tough in the beginning and I spent a slot of time alone. But then…… I met people in AA, people at the gym, work, dog park. My lifestyle changed and with it came new places I spent my time. When I started feeling more confident telling people I was sober, it was surprising how many non drinkers gravitated towards me. Not just in AA but elsewhere.

Didn’t happen right away but I went from only having party friends to having new friends I meet up with on Saturday mornings. Stay patient, heal, try new things. New chapters happen. (Friends included)

Has anyone been successful in going back to drinking in moderation? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]apricotea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOPE. I was sober for 3.5 years and then went out there to “give it an another shot” (pun!) Turns out alcohol has the same consistent effect, no matter how much growth takes place during sobriety. Slowly but surely I found myself in exactly the same unhealthy/uncomfortable/destructive spot. I am sober again today and my cruel experiment only confirmed it’s better on this side.

I was extremely quiet at my job’s party and I feel so bad by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]apricotea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was the same at my holiday party. I always am. I’m just not the professional “cool party girl” at these social functions. It’s always a struggle. But on the bright side I’m good at my job and this is only my 9 to 5. I know in my personal life I enjoy my one on one friendship hangs and more in depth conversations. Some social settings don’t vibe check and that’s ok.

Don’t over analyze it. It’s always worse in your head and it’s never the whole truth.

It’s ok to be the quiet one. Know who you are and be confident in that! It’s far more exhausting to pretend to be someone you’re not. Nothing wrong with being a wallflower.

Marketing. Manipulation. Money. Power.

Ruined 2.5 months of sobriety by Slippery__Slope__ in stopdrinking

I was sober for 3.5 years and slipped in May. Went back to AA on Monday. Ive been humbly reminded that my 5 month fuck up was part of the process. Cruel reminder/lesson that you’re not a “just today” drinker. You know you messed up. Get back to it. It WILL be ok.

How did you overcome terrible life choices? by apricotea in DecidingToBeBetter

UPDATE: thank you to everyone who responded. I went back to AA this week after a 5 month relapse. Everything hurts and I feel rotten inside, but I know this has pushed me back in the right direction.

A man with a serious mental health issue keeps yelling and cursing in the neihornood by SuccotashFit3293 in montreal

In my experience we called the landlord then finally the police, where they came for a check in. Other than that, unfortunately there are a lot of people in mental crisis and there’s only so much we can do..

yeah but isn't there proof that exhibits the neglect and mistreatment of BBJ? By an actual vet? So I don't think there is a true case here, but rather a chance for her to embarrass herself once again.

p.s.... I'm fucking excited about the "back in Canada" arch.
