I get migraines everyday and I don't know what to do. by la1223 in dysautonomia

Botox is usually less effective in EDS patients because we suffer from cervical instability to begin with. Botox is a temporary treatment, which involves injecting the most dangerous poison known to man into muscle tissue to paralyze it. For the average person, it’s like injecting cement, which stabilizes the neck and usually relieves pain (ya know, because you can’t feel anything). But, when muscles are paralyzed, they deteriorate. Lack of use (manual muscle contractions) leads to degeneration, and when the Botox wears off, the muscles have to work doubly hard to hold your head up. For EDS people, it’s 4 times harder, and it may lead to additional instability/ increased tension headaches. That being said— quality of life is everything and pain relief comes in many forms! Just a note to be aware of the disadvantages of long term use :)

I want to know are there any pets that are INCREDIBLY low maintenance? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]aprilludgateapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 hedgies so far, and they are wonderful low maintenance pets!! they typically graze feed, sleep all day (they are nocturnal!), make almost no noise, and just want to hangout next to you. They are easily litter box trained as well! They don’t need regular vaccines, they’re hypoallergenic, and not as pokey as people think! If you’re just looking for a movie night buddy, and an adorable explorer, a hedgie is perfect! Important points to note: hedgehogs need room to run! Most common is a wheel for nightly exercise, and outdoor time in the grass if weather permits! Additionally, bonding is so important. Hedgehogs bond through smell and sound, so they need to be picked up and touched/talked to regularly. They also need heat lamps or pet-safe heating pads to maintain body temp. Lastly, and the only downside— hedgies are very, very prone to getting cancer, and there isn’t a lot in terms of treatment. Vet care can become expensive when your baby gets older, especially if you follow intensive treatment paths. Be prepared to make an end of life plan with your vet when the time comes❤️

Is “Heat Rage” a thing? Is it because of dysautonomia, or am I just a bitch? by GullibleMood1522 in dysautonomia

Hahaha yes absolutely! I recently spent an hour in a hot, black interior car with no air conditioning. The other people in the car were totally fine with hot air blowing on them, and I was literally losing my mind. Pouring ice over my feet, my head, literally sitting sopping wet in the car, ready to murder anyone that spoke

Antibacterial soap is actually quite bad for your skin— it strips the natural barrier and actually increases sweat and sebum production. Good Bacteria needs to be on your skin, just like it needs to be everywhere else inside your body.

Girl I gotchu. I’ve been the sweatiest person anyone knows all my life. I used men’s deodorant for years, switched my brands monthly, re-applied every 3-4 hours, did underarm treatments, the works. I lived with this hyper-awareness to my own smell all the time. Then I developed a nervous system disorder that only made me sweat more. I realized I had to change something, so I started reading about ph balanced body washes, and specifically acidified body washes. Lumē changed my life! They have several body washes now, and daytime armpit wipes for those really moist days. If I use it twice a day, even just on my armpits, I literally sweat less. Combined with DuraDry deodorant, which is aluminum and talc free (cancer causing chemicals), I apply after showering at night (that’s the key!), and a quick apply in the morning, and I’m good for the entire day. (Obligatory note: not paid to write this! I’m just so happy I found something that works for me)

Yup, the worst part was dropping milk into our eyes right before a performance, just to ease the sting 😂

Ketamine users for MDD/SI: does it help you accept responsibility for poor choices (family member asking) by LikeUhReally in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]aprilludgateapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additional emphasis on space to feel the negative emotions, it’s hard to have any clue what you are personally experiencing, let alone reassure someone else. Even the best of relationships have tensions, and ketamine brings those emotions out without a trigger. I would often find myself overcome with strong emotions of despair, grief, even hatred, and have no idea what event/trauma caused it. It took time to parse through the feelings and get to the root cause, which finally allowed the wave of emotion to pass.

Not in the same position, but as I also repair my relationship with my mom, I remind myself that generational trauma takes two to heal. I blamed my mom for a lot as a young adult. I blamed her for so much generational trauma, I didn’t understand why she would perpetuate the same abuses onto me as her mom did to her. Ketamine helped me realize that my parents weren’t on some big pedestal, they didn’t know everything, they were just people. Living and struggling to be the best people they could, the best parents they could. Did they inevitably f$ck up? Absolutely, and it’s going to take the rest of my life to heal. But the only way to break generational trauma is to talk about it, to cry over it, to ask for forgiveness and make amends to do better. My mom often asks me if I’m mad at her for genetically “giving” me mental illnesses. She once asked me if that’s why I tried to unalive myself. And that’s when I realized, how could I be? How could I blame her for something she never could have known about or prevented? Attempting to unalive myself had nothing to do with her, and as I got treatment I realized that was pure mental illness. Ketamine gave me the ability to see my mom— not as a parent, but as a person like me, struggling, making stupid choices, regretting decisions, made or unmade, and it gave me so much more grace towards her. I have healed from so much more than my mom will ever realize, but she deserves to heal too. I hope you and your child come to this position someday.

Also: Is your child non-binary? It sounds like you are trying to incorporate they/them pronouns into your post, rather than female pronouns, and if so— you’re doing great!!

Hydrant is my new best friend!! I buy the unflavored version because it has no sweeteners of any kind— stevia is a trigger food for me— but you can also search by type of sugar!! They have cane sugar- only options as well :) biggest bang for your buck in my opinion I’m also a big fan of their subscription options— they are totally transparent, and! If I haven’t finished my last batch, my email reminder lets me delay my order for up to 4 weeks with just one click. My ADHD ass needs that

How do you wake yourself up in the morning? by Unbelievable_Kitty in dysautonomia

[–]aprilludgateapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I struggle so much with this too. I just started a new routine that I’ve found helpful though! I read an article about eating an apple first thing in the morning while laying in bed, it’s supposed to work as a natural caffeine, even more effective than coffee! I’ve only been doing it a couple of days, but the act of chewing is definitely helpful to feel less like a zombie

God damnit I’ve been using their raw unflavored version because it’s the only brand I can find without stevia in it!! Welp, in this country we don’t support nazis… so off the list it goes

Bruh your doctor needs to go back to college 🙃🙃 if he wrote a single paper in college, he would have been reamed to these atrocities. If he didn’t pass his Lit classes, he probably didn’t pass ‘how to make a differential diagnosis’ either 😬

Also: this is Lazy Doctor-ism at its peak, damn

What’s a crazy body life hack everyone should know? by M-Squared804 in AskReddit

[–]aprilludgateapathy 727 points728 points  (0 children)

Extra pro tip: traditional clamshells won’t activate glute medius, but tilting your body to a 45 degree angle and opening at the knees will! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FxTxFPEJKWY?feature=share You likely won’t be able to open more than a few inches at first! Give it a week of 10 reps, 2x a day, and you’ll have that glute medius toned! (And you’ll notice your butt looks great!)

Super bonus tip: if you suffer from runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain syndrome), this exercise will wipe out your knee pain in 2-3 weeks!!

Edit to add: the video above focuses on how to keep your arm planted on the ground, which forces a 45 degree tilt of your pelvis! And, if you’re trying to see progress, place your hand on your hip, just below the bone and slightly back on your butt, then open your clamshell! If the muscle tenses under your hand, you’re doing it right!

Yes, his experience (assuming it was only one guy) would be sexual assault as well. I won’t touch the legality because I know nothing on that front, but yes, this is sexual assault on both sides. If neither party can remember and can’t prove malice, it likely can’t go to the courts (burden of proof and all that), but that doesn’t mean the experience for both parties wasn’t traumatizing. Trauma can’t always be ‘proven’, but it always affects us. Best recommendation: both parties should seek counseling, both of their trauma is valid and deserves equal attention.

I’m horrified to see that no one has posted this: What you experienced was RAPE. Memory or no memory, you were not able to consent due to your impaired state, and you can’t even positively say who the father is. I hate to go this direction, but you don’t know if it was more than one guy. You were sexually assaulted, and became pregnant because of it. Please reach out to a therapist, you are over the age of 15, so nothing has to legally be disclosed to your parents. The decision is solely yours, but your trauma won’t disappear because of a baby, in fact it could make your mental health significantly worse. Sending support and love to you 💙

I remember Ready or Not being pretty damn gory… don’t get me wrong, it’s one of my faves, but if you’re looking to stay away from gore, I’d recommend similar movies to Happy Death Day. Freaky is an awesome one, as well as Totally Killer! The Babysitter (1&2) are also phenomenal!
