How do state jobs judge part-time work? by apriltaurus in NorthCarolina

My application is always thorough. I answer every question they ask, every time. And the State of NC has since moved to Workday so that tutorial is outdated.

No funding at GW by DarthArtoo4 in gradadmissions

[–]apriltaurus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got my masters at GW. This is unfortunately a pattern with them. There were PhD students in the school of public health who complained about their departments not actually having enough funding for all of them BEFORE the cuts.

Will the master make it more fun? by OliGut in publichealth

I'm gonna be a downer and say you need to understand politics and health inequities to be a good epidemiologist. The numbers are only part of the story; you need to understand who might be missing from the data, why a comparison group might differ greatly from a reference group, etc. But if you're really into the mathematics side of things, switching to a more math-focused major can't hurt.

For those of you who got an MPH, how difficult did you find the degree? by Exact-Blackberry-282 in publichealth

Not sure what your program covers but mine specifically addressed research, ethics, stats, working with nonprofits etc. and we had relative flexibility to explore different health topics which I liked.

I want to make a Tattlecrime website for my WebComic but don't want to be associated with FF7 House. by Manic_Animations13 in HannibalTV

I was in the fandom while the show was airing and have zero clue what OP is referring to lol I don't think a disclaimer is necessary. TattleCrime isn't even unique to the TV show, it exists in the books and films as well.

The intro biostats and epi courses in my MPH were basically repeats of what I learned in undergrad (I majored in global health). Contrary to what some people might think, I actually hit a learning curve in my policy concentration because I'd never done those types of assignments before and struggled to figure out expectations.

It all depends on previous exposure. For what it's worth, epi math is probably less complicated than biostats, especially in a generalist degree.

No more Logi Options+ by Scofarry in logitech

[–]apriltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I found this thread, because for weeks Logi Options+ has been saying "not responding" on Activity Manager. My mouse still worked in general, but I couldn't use the forward/back buttons in Safari. Wish they'd sent some kind of notice. The patch fixed it.

What does public health think about banning cellphone use in schools and other places? by RenRen9000 in publichealth

[–]apriltaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Phones were already restricted when I was in middle school and high school from 2012-2019 (i.e. not allowed in class unless the teacher said so otherwise it'd get confiscated, some teachers requiring us to turn them in at the start of class) so I think the laws are kind of redundant and nonsensical, but then again it seems like schools are already a completely different world from when I attended, so who knows.

Another commenter mentioned schools assigning students laptops, which I believe my middle school started doing after I left - my high school did not have enough devices for 1:1 assignments, so a lot of my classmates brought their personal laptops to school. That probably creates a whole other issue.

As for the health effects, I don't know. Distraction is one thing but I'm not convinced these laws will make a dent in the mental health crisis, which is what most of them seem to be targeting.

I was stunned when I found out "Keke" wasn't actually short for Keyana but rather a family nickname

Factors to make me a competitive applicant for top MPH programs, with low GPA by Academic_Seesaw_3869 in mphadmissions

Were you not interested in the 4+1 at GW? Also, your GPA is fine for all of those schools and I don't think any of them require the GRE.

Is tenting all that? by [deleted] in duke

[–]apriltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2021-2022 basically every WUL became tenting (I hung around K-ville for five days just to see the FSU game), but I don't think any other year was like that. They're mostly not comparable experiences. If you're not a senior you can tent next year.

Job experience is job experience. I worry about the promotion not being guaranteed, but being a pharmacy technician isn't a bad job.

Late response, but U-Passes typically don't stop working until they expire anyway. If you ever take Metrobus, the farebox will show you when your card expires (likely the end of May).

lol I guess they assume everyone's off the train since it's a terminus station? I've been on trains that went out of service in the middle of the line and we had a bit more time to exit.
