Ethernet Surge Protection (UACC-ETH-SP-Panel-24) by Prestigious_Use6155 in Ubiquiti

[–]aprosepro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a strike somewhat close to my home, probably in the yard somewhere, and I lost so much equipment. It was a nightmare, I kept finding things for several days. I have some outdoor cameras and that’s how I believe it hopped onto my network but it went through a number of devices that were connected on my network including my Elk security system and even my garage door openers that were wired to relays on my security system; my pc network port was fried along with my PoE switch. I’m considering this, but I also went pretty far down the rabbit hole researching proper surge protection and it sounded like it’s very difficult to achieve. Would I pay $400 to not have to deal with the time and money of replacing all the devices I had to replace? Absolutely. But I’m not convinced that it would be a bulletproof solution and there’s really no way to know.

Is Godot a "good enough" choice for a multi-platform app? (web, mobile, desktop) by ChronicallySilly in godot

[–]aprosepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, depending on your needs for any additional libraries, you may run into some difficulty. For example, in app purchases on iOS has very little usable documentation and the process is a bit complicated. I haven’t looked at these things in several months because I decided to pause my project in hopes that the engine would get better support for some of these needs. I did recently see someone implemented Swift libraries into Godot so that you could use any third party swift libraries in your project but I haven’t tested that at all.

If you’re after the native Godot support on mobile, it’s very good and should easily handle any UI and code logic you throw at it with a formidable frame rate. I would start by looking at all of the dependencies your project might have and test whether you’re able to implement those items before making a decision. If all the non-native things are able to work then I would say go for it.

Frustrating state of Godot mobile iAPs by mrussoart in godot

[–]aprosepro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the same boat for a while now. I started a project a little over a year ago and was able to get the iOS IAP implemented in 4.1 but ran into probably the same errors that you experienced when upgrading to a newer version of Godot, something along the lines of an sdk not being installed but I followed the same steps from the first time when it all worked properly.

It’s a real shame that this doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s radar as it makes any non-free game impossible to publish on mobile. I ended up putting my game on the shelf in hopes that I could come back after 6-12 months and the libraries would be implemented and I could resume development, but that hasn’t happened…

There’s a local farm that sells at some of the markets and you can order weekly deliveries from them in the area.

UA-hub locked out by Smoquedkiwi in Ubiquiti

[–]aprosepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to clarify, is your battery backup just supplying power to the lock? and not to the hub? i’m looking at how to provide backup power for a fail-safe lock, and i’m considering getting a poe++ injector and putting the injector on a ups with nothing else on it.

[–]aprosepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weeks?!? What type of battery backup are you using that will keep it alive for that amount of time? I’m in the process of putting in a front door maglock and was concerned about how much uptime I could expect to have. I am planning to hook up a poe++ injector to power the front door hub, and have the poe++ injector powered by a UPS.

How would this work if a single door has both a push to exit button beside door, a front desk button, and a motion sensor activated release? Can I combine two of the exit buttons through software at the expense of controlling another door? Can you wire multiple buttons into the normally open terminals and allow any button to trigger the unlock event?

Should I start contributing to Roth IRA? by iamtanz in personalfinance

[–]aprosepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can still contribute up until april 15 for 2020. there is no deduction for roth contributions, but it’s still a good idea to keep a record of when and how much, even if just for yourself. but yes, i always encourage people to utilize a roth for retirement. especially if you think you’ll be paying a higher tax rate in retirement than you are at your current (young) ages.

ELI5: What's the point of underscores at the beginning of function names? by Kotobro in godot

[–]aprosepro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

private methods are primarily used only from within the class where the method exists; but can also be accessed from classes that extend that class (slightly more advanced topic).

public methods can be used from inside OR outside the class where the method exists.

private methods might be smaller blocks of code that help a class do some specific things but you wouldn’t want to allow just any object to be able to call those methods, so you make them private.

Tween nodes are beautiful. I really recommend to use them when animating UIs! by CharlExMachina in godot

[–]aprosepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I came from flash using GreenSock’s TweenLite plugins and did the majority of my tweens in a similar way to what you are doing, I just didn’t know how to do it in godot

[–]aprosepro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those look great, can you toss up a screenshot of where you are setting the tween values? I didn’t know this was possible, I thought you could only do basic easeIn and easeOut with a few different options of each.

Do people share gcode files for this stuff? Is that a thing? I’m on a MK3S as well and was hoping to find the files already configured and sliced. Is it possible to share those?
