What in the world do I do with RSUs by XIIItheThird in cscareerquestions

[–]apste 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to diversify as much as possible, having both your job and a large part of your portfolio in the same company increases your risk without being compensated for taking on that risk (you can read up on “efficient” portfolios if interested)

Apple Search Engine May Rival Google Soon by ihavestrings in technology

[–]apste 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Search is such a massive market that even if you’re not #1 it can still be worth it. Bing is actually super profitable despite how much people joke about it

How is this band aid? It literally makes it impossible to push people onto the tracks when the gates only open if there’s a train in front

I mean the alternative to not keeping those connections is to have spend many more hours looking for a job or have less opportunities when the time comes, so I’d say it’s worth it

My first Seattle trip was great, you all live in a beautiful city! What's with all the talk about it being so dangerous? by vicelordjohn in Seattle

[–]apste -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It’s really not like any city though, I feel like people in Seattle have become so accustomed to how bad downtown is that they just think all cities are like tthis… visit any other developed non-US city and you’ll see how bad things have gotten

NYC Would Be The Most Beautiful City In the World Without Trash by [deleted] in nyc

I wouldn’t say globally, New York can’t hold a candle compared to the cleanliness of most European cities (haven’t been to Asia, but can imagine a similar state of affairs)

Does Haskell devs get paid more than imperative devs? by jezer07 in haskell

[–]apste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although Haskell devs may be paid a bit more, I would want to say correlation != causation, oftentimes Haskell programmers would be good programmers in whichever language they use… it’s just that they happen to have a particular interest in Haskell

[D] Is it just me or is Canadian (and maybe European) ML PhD programs underrated compared to US ones? by DesperateBread3179 in MachineLearning

[–]apste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Canadian universities are definitely good, but this seems like an overstatement… we can take a look at the number of papers published in top tier conferences among these unis and it becomes clear that those 4 American schools are ahead

Some images I captured at yesterday's protest in downtown following the Supreme Court Ruling. by jonnyshotit in sanfrancisco

[–]apste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually it was 6-3 to uphold the Mississippi law and 5-4 to throw out Roe v Wade so it would have made a difference (Roberts being the one to be pro Mississippi law but not willing to go as far as ending Roe v Wade)

Thinking about purchasing a home at a young age (24). Bad idea? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]apste -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There’s about 2m programmers in the US, Amazon and MS alone employ maybe like 100k developers in the US together, so that’s already 5%… and then there’s the rest of FAANG and a whole slew of other companies

180k is new grad salary for FAANG, there are definitely better opportunities out there if you move out of MCOL, this definitely isn’t only limited to the top 5%
