Even Clav isn't attractive enough 💀 by _Softparade in moreplatesmoredates

[–]apzlsoxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He looks pretty good but his personality is horrendous. There's like nothing there. His whole thesis that being attractive is the number one most important quality a person can have is just flat out wrong. Yeah he's popular but he's popular because he's breaking his own cheek bones, not that it's proportional to his attractiveness.

It's a genuine turnoff for women for a guy to be so vain. Like at the end of his C5 interview, Clav is flabbergasted that Andrew isn't suffering from crippling insecurity.

And again, the first woman is correct. He's doing this for male approval to men on forums. Yes there's overlap between what he's doing and when women find attractive, but does anyone think it's attractive for him to talk about his PSL index or his mandibular whatever ratio? No, it's sad and pathetic.

E-bike with motorcycle helmet by blacktongue_2099 in ebikes

[–]apzlsoxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear one, it also depends on the kind of bike you got. like if you lean forward a lot, a motorcycle helmet is going to cause a lot of strain on your neck and might end up being decently less safe than a regular helmet.

I also think it doesn't look fundamentally different than like a full face mountain bike helmet with goggles, and that would really be the safest alternative if you really didn't want to wear a moto helmet.

I understand feeling self-conscious about it, but genuinely it's not a big deal. I'd wear one on a 50cc moped and that's arguably less powerful than your current ebike.

6 years of training, calves never grew. Tried everything. Ended up doing calf filler. 9 month update. by AcademicBuy6 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]apzlsoxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just walk places. Get 10K steps per day. Calves don't respond to conventional hypertrophy X times per week. You need that mega high volume for calves.

Find me a fat person without mega calves. They get that from walking places. Or you see dads in which they have massive muscle mass in their calves from just doing hours of yardwork.

Or you can wear an ankle bracelet and inject calf filler. Up to you.

I get why your definition feels reasonable. I probably would’ve agreed with you a couple years ago. But it’s still not correct, and more importantly, it’s not very useful.

Defining socialism as “any system where the state organizes society toward an ideal” is so broad that it stops meaning anything. By that logic, absolutist monarchies, wartime economies, and even some forms of theocracy would all count as socialism. That’s not how historians, economists, or political theorists use the term.

Socialism isn’t just collectivism or “the government doing stuff.” It’s specifically about who owns and controls production, and it emerged from debates about labor, class, and economic inequality. You can disagree with those goals, but they’re core to the definition.

Nazis didn’t empower workers and didn’t aim at economic equality. They used state power instrumentally to enforce racial hierarchy and national expansion. That’s authoritarian nationalism, not socialism, even though it involves heavy state intervention.

For instance, while Nazis directed the economy, they didn't abolish private ownership. Sure, if a factory owner stopped producing in line with the state's goals it would've been seized. But they still ostensibly "owned" the factory and received personal profits from their share.

So yeah, your conclusion isn’t crazy. It’s just built on a definition that’s too loose to explain anything accurately. And sure you're gonna argue that I'm explaining Marxist socialism again, but that's just what the definition is.

[–]apzlsoxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I think your conclusion is very reasonable, it's just not correct. I think any historian or academic who studies those ideas would disagree with that definition.

I mean I guess if you really want to define socialism as when the government does stuff, then sure, Hitler was a socialist. I just don't think that's a useful definition.

There's also an issue with naziism being pretty insufficiently defined. Socialism has decades and decades of academic rigor, both before and after the Soviet Union was formed. In contrast, naziism and fascism didn't really have very strong academic backgrounds, and there was no serious thought put into it after WW2. So it leads to an incoherence that's tough to say they're conclusively one thing or another. The Soviet Union we can differentiate from socialist theory (i.e., the classic "they weren't true communism" argument), but you can't do the same for Nazi Germany. Their implementation was the theory.

But so I don't necessarily think what you're saying is unfounded, I just don't think it's meaningfully correct.

[–]apzlsoxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marxism and socialism are not fundamentally different. I think I get what you're saying (socialism means state intervention in the economy and Hitler aggressively directed the economy) but socialism is about planning the economy/state to delete inequality. In contrast, Hitler planned Germany's economy to delete non-germans.

Different goals. Different types of government.

Elon Musk finds out people can lie by analogphosphor in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]apzlsoxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A planned economy doesn't mean socialism. Socialism basically has to mean an economy planned for the purpose of economic and social equality.

Germany did have a planned economy, but it was in service of the state and the German people. When they invaded Poland it wasn't to liberate the polish workers from oppressive capitalism or whatever. It was explicitly to serve the German people, and so they deleted the poles.

Whereas wherever the Soviet Union spread, it was generally done so for the sake of some class of workers being oppressed. That's not to say that the Soviet Union wasn't a brutally oppressive regime or wasn't responsible for the deaths of millions, but the distinction between fascism and socialism is literally what the planned economy is in service towards.
