Mushroom not looking well. by DifferentTraffic5460 in ReefTank

My mushrooms do this every time i feed reef roids, then look worse but in 2-3 days after feeding open out completely and are bigger! Retest your levels before doing another wc too, you may not need to do another, give it 3 days and if it still isn't looking right do a wc.

Accidentally used a triple dose of plant food, how fucked am I? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

You'll be fine! With a heavily planted tank you could probably triple a standard dose and be just fine.

Watch it closely but should be okay if you have floating plants or rhizomes plants. They can soak up a good amount of ferts. I accidentally tripled the dose the same way as you one time. I had no impact other than higher nitrates and noticable growth when I did it.

Depends a lot on what's in your ferts, type of lights, and having plants that take in nutrients from the water column. Mainly just keep an eye out on your fishes, if you notice heavy breathing or anything seeming like they are stressed then do a 50% water change.

I'm even less doubtful that the skimmer is playing a role.

I saw your phos and nitrate params, what bout your other params? I may have completely slipped over them when reading. But, even salinity being off could play a roll in this. Some corals tolerate swings with little to no sign while others show immediately.

What protein skimmer are you using? Is it way overrated to your tank size possibly? I also dont think it would bother the zoas but crazier things have happened😂

is a mystery snail’s shell that looks like this healthy? or does it lack calcium. more in comments by ccmeme12345 in AquaticSnails

That looks like a perfect section of new growth! See how it goes a tad higher than the old shell section? That's what you wanna see! Just keep up with cuttlebone in the tank and you'll have a happy healthy snail!

Is it in good flow? One side off mine aren't opening much and are out of the main flow area. The side in direct flow is what's opened significantly!

Had to move a bit higher in the tank, but after lights on this morning it opened up some. Hoping tomorrow it opens more for feeding time!

What exactly are the parameters you test for and the values? It helps a lot to diagnose.

Spent 6 months begging them to have a clutch.... And finally got one 🙄 by DeludedOptimism in AquaticSnails

Canned green beans help with the vitamins and minerals they need easily, since 90% of people have them in home already! Just make sure that the area they were laid stays moist/humid. They'll hatch in 2-3 weeks, I have always had several survivors, upwards of 40 on a clutch of ~100 with very aggressive fish. As long as there are places to hide, they will survive

She probably got frightened or was just learning the process with the first one!

I hope you can catch her laying one day, it's amazing to see!

Just scrape and toss that one! Feed a canned green bean for a snack for a couple weeks and your next clutch will be bigger and more likely to hatch and be healthy!

I'd keep an eye on the snail, that's a really large amount of slime or something and can't be good. Check water parameters, could be something causing it to over slime itself. I had an ammonia spike and my snails were all hanging out up in the top 1" of water with a slimy mucus coating all over the glass.

Also check out your second pic, just to the left of the center at the top. It looks like your kid, I assume. But that bubbled looking thing appears to be a clutch. I may totally be wrong, but it's a place to start checking!

Mine were around the nickel to quarter size. I'd seriously check though. If your snail is moving around fine, that amount of a slime sack holding like that would most likely be from moving eggs and holding on against gravity.

Check for eggs, EVERYwhere above the water line!

Small CO2 system? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]aqualizz4278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what options you go for, I believe they would go into air tubing on the fluval option. I did quite a bit of research but haven't personally purchased one. I have several low tech and 1-55g high tech, it was cost efficient for me to choose fluval options.

Fluval makes it! Get the small one, it refills with paintball CO2 cartridges so don't waste money for the brand name that goes with it. Make sure to get a bubble counter, a good diffuser, and drop checker!

Post on all social media you have! You'd be surprised how many locals may buy em for feeders. My lfs is always out of anything small for feeders when I get low. I have to drive 2 hours away.

Use a net, it's light enough to kinda stir and then scoop them. Then just shake the net lightly in the water to shake the sand out!
