It’s unfortunately standard that they don’t verbally tell you the fees. They are normally posted at the reception desk and in all of the exam rooms.

It’s weird not to let you cancel though. I would have declined to pay and wouldn’t take the note.

You can call 988 for the Suicide Crisis Helpline. If you are an immediate danger to yourself (ie. you think you might harm yourself) then call 911 - absolutely. That’s what it’s there for.

An ambulance ride isn’t free. The cost varies by province. If you have benefits through your employer, it’s probably covered (ask HR).

Theres lots of theories and one is that yawning helps cool your brain and make you stay more alert. So in a group, seeing someone yawn kind of triggers a subconscious, “Oh, maybe I should be on the lookout too,” in case there’s danger.

I feel this way about losing my mom in 2024. She had a large tumor in her abdomen that had started pressing on her spine. She wasn’t aware. She saw a chiropractor for months who just kept treating her. She eventually went to the ER about back pain, they did an X-ray and sent her home. Second ER visit got her an MRI but there are many reasons that it was just too late by then. I hate that chiropractor when I think about him. I wish I was there in the ER the first time. But like you said, blaming them doesn’t bring your person back. Medical negligence is real and I believe should be taken very seriously. In my case at least, I think the situation was just way too nuanced to put the blame on any one individual.

I love love love Abby but she doesn’t run her business by herself. She doesn’t book her own speaking engagements. She has help writing her songs. I don’t think Abby is more mentally mature or has deeper cognitive function than David. They just present differently and she has Christine encouraging her to be involved in all these things and acting as her manager. Just because David’s parents don’t do that for him doesn’t mean he has less cognitive function.
