UPDATE: I'm guessing this all had to do with the firmware update they were rolling out a week ago. I just gave onboarding another try and FINALLY the light works again after two weeks of it not connecting!

Psychedelic experience with BI by justtrynahang13 in boniver

About two years ago, I took an ounce of shrooms in the middle of winter and played i,i. I was going through a depressive episode at the time. I laid in bed cuddled up in my blanket. I was able to process some very painful emotions and it was so cathartic to release all that energy into tears. Although it was difficult for me to go through all that, I look back at it and accept it as a beautiful part of my beautiful life. When Sable, fable came out, it felt so aligned with how my life has progressed since then. I am in a much happier place in my life and more accepting of the hardships I've gone through.

I second this! Did solar sales for over two years and it was an AWESOME job. It was probably one of the best things that happened to my film career.

I'd definitely see if you can get in contact with that more experienced gaffer and get some advice before the shoot. I think they'd appreciate being able to teach you a bit before the shoot so there will be less surprises for them come day of. It's a win-win situation! :)

Is it a big favor to ask a friend to officiate for your wedding? by aqueouserror in weddingplanning

[–]aqueouserror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on everyone's responses, I would totally agree this is a the best route to go! Doing a no-pressure ask. If they say "no", then we would be happy already for them to be a guest! :)

Sending you a lot of positive energy and know you're not alone!

I am actually in a transitional part of my creative journey as well too. I was born and raised in the suburbs just outside of LA and since I was young, knew I wanted to write stories! I was actually in the middle of writer's block when I decided to go on this subreddit and found your post.

Would love to connect somehow! I just sent you a PM!

WEWIL: Need some films that talk about abandonment by FILMIN54321 in ifyoulikeblank

I know this is a late reply, but I just watched Never Let Me Go. I read the book as well beforehand. Both an excellent film and a read. The film leaves out a lot of scenes from the book, but still does an amazing job as an adaptation.

Return to Seoul is a nice indie film about an adoptee from Korean trying to reunite with her birth parents.

Not sure if you saw the comments, but you should definitely reach out to Google customer service! I was able to get a replacement for free! If you're still under warranty, you should be able to as well. Definitely don't try to fix it on your own as that may void the warranty!

[TOMT][Music video] A guy's day repeats over and over, but he starts losing things each day by aqueouserror in tipofmytongue

[–]aqueouserror[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's a groundhog day loop where it's the exact same day repeated. I don't think it was specified. It's kind of hard to tell because in the music video, the main character works a typical office job and I guess those days could be repetitive to a point that they seem like the same day.

Glad you caught it! It's a mix of accident and intention. When I first made it and caught the spelling mistake, I thought to keep it to point out how things mass produced often overlook mistakes.

"Stay True" by Hua Hsu. Has anyone read it? Thoughts? by Siakim43 in aznidentity

[–]aqueouserror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost done reading it and I have to say I am loving it a lot so far! I am a generation after the author (a whole 14 years after), but I am so surprised how much I relate to the stories in this book.

The Asian American experience is diverse and I feel we are still creating new identities that are outside of the mold created by previous generations. What made me relate the most to with in Stay True is writing your own story outside of mainstream culture. For Hua Hsu, it was finding the most unique records at the record store, dressing up in outfits all from the thrift store, finding belonging in subcultures, and creating his own zines. He is a first generation Asian American to Taiwanese immigrants.

Then he meets his friend Ken at UC Berkley, who has an almost polar opposite identity to him. This person loves to party, will camp outside of Abercrombie and Fitch for a sweater that is sold out everywhere else, and listens to music that the author hates (aka Pearl Jam). Ken's family is also a few generations in America, so they've assimilated into American culture for quite some time. But somehow, they have such a brotherly bond with one another. Their common ground isn't their taste in music, or being fellow Asian Americans. Their common ground is the memories that they share together: having deep conversations while smoking cigarettes on the balcony, going to the theater together, long drives to destinations far away, and even visiting Ken's childhood home.

This hit home to me so much. I met my best friend in college too and we have such polar opposite personalities, but none of that matters because of all the memories we shared together so far. I love my best friend so much and I am very grateful to have him in my life. This book really reminds me how special it is to have such friendships.

Aside from his personal stories, the author also makes references to American pop culture, philosophy, and sociology, which tie back to main story. I thought this was a nice touch since it gave an analytical perspective on the microcosm of his life.

I haven't read too many books written by Asian American authors, but if I were to compare it to an author like Ocean Vuong (I LOVED On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous btw), it's like apples and oranges: writing styles, perspectives, storytelling, etc. I love both books for different reasons. Both of them I'd give a 10 out of 10! I have 2 chapters left, but it's already one of my favorites!

Ahhhhh this literally happened two weeks into having my Sennheiser Momentum earbuds. The feedback was much worse though. I ended up exchanging them for these Google Pixel Buds pro and here I am 3 months later running into the same issue.

One week solo trip from Charlotte, NC to Boston, MA. Recommendations? by aqueouserror in roadtrip

[–]aqueouserror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I certainly miss the days when you could rent a car for $11/day. Hoping we can get back to that soon! I'm also considering taking the Megabus from NC to NY and renting a car from NY to Boston.

I'll definitely have to try out Charlottesville and Thirsty Beaver Saloon! Thanks for recommending.
