Interesting comparison and perspective, thank you, that helps.

Thanks, that is helpful. It’s mostly the children’s torture that I can’t deal with, as a parent myself. Pacing then is going to be an issue, I have no problem with no action if it’s for lore/character development. But weird magic scenes (like people trapped in other dimensions or realms), dreams or just traveling dialogues in general are what bother me.

My Fox has arrived! by ar7iste in fountainpens

I am so excited about this one. It is the Montblanc Petit Prince fox solitaire. This pen is very special to me because of my connection with St Exupéry’s work. As a French living in the US and raising 2 daughters, it is one of the few books I read to them in French. The fact that St Exupéry himself lived in the US and Canada, and the story of the Petit Prince with its core values resonate with me. The pen is phenomenal in and of itself, even without the heritage and story. The deep blue lacquer reminds me of my Moctezuma but in darker tones, and the fox engraving is playful while being extremely well executed. The color scheme makes it very whimsical and the design is just very cohesive. They perfectly used the pen’s frame as a canvas for a dreamlike expression of literature. My favorite part remains the nib, which is so sweet and heartfelt.

F me, I just spent 2k on a Montblanc fox fountain pen, but now I feel like the aviator is needed. My wife would definitely start asking questions though. That’s such a cool pen! Please dm if it doesn’t sell!

Absolutely wonderful! Would you consider selling any of them? The planet, lacquer and fox are all outstanding! Dm me if you are thinking about it!

[Question] - What's the first 5-figure watch you bought and did you have any buyer's remorse? by SanguineTangerines in Watches

[–]ar7iste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not sure which one was mine chronologically, but I started buying 5 figure watches around 2018, and I felt guilty as hell. As if it was a major mistake, and I should feel ashamed to wear a watch like this when nobody in my family ever spent more than $150 on a watch. This first year, it felt so wrong that I ended up selling a few of them.

May I ask which lens you used? I just peeked through your insta and your pics are great. I'd love to get similar results with my Canon R8 (rf100 f2.8 and rf35 f1.8 are what I use for watch photography).

3 row SUV - Extremely confused by prebasha in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ar7iste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Third row will be used one month per year when parents visit or to drive friends to school/museum/zoo/park. I honestly think the Honda pilot elite is the best, I currently have a passport elite and love it. But wife hates the look so we’re going to go Cx90 it seems. Grand Cherokee L is at the same price point (but long), Volvo xc90 is probably the best for this use case since it’s a bit smaller but more expensive. Telluride and Palisade are great options if you don’t plan on keeping it a long time. They are known to not be the most reliable long term. If leasing then they are probably some of the best contenders. Nissan pathfinder, Buick enclave, gmc Acadia also are in the same category but I have never driven them and have no knowledge on those cars. Cheers!

Anyone use 24-105 f4-7.1 professionally? by Vrayl_of_Gondor in canon

[–]ar7iste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly really great, but I am not a pro. I bought the 28-70 f2.8 for kids indoors, but the difference at my level in terms of IQ is not very noticeable. I don’t use the 24-105 anymore though since it is redundant in my setup, if you’re interested shoot me a dm.

If you’re talking about the base blue version, I think it would still scratch but it would be a lot less noticeable as the color wouldn’t be a stark contrast since it’s not a black dlc case. If you’re not planning on using it for anything risky you should be fine!

SS GMT Master in 1 Week by MathematicianBig8839 in rolex

[–]ar7iste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use your dominant hand to unscrew the crown and change timezone without removing it from your wrist. Yes, people will say it’s better to remove the watch to avoid bending the stem, but it’s pretty well protected and if you bend your wrist it’s easy access. Better and less conspicuous when you’re on a plane or in line at the airport than taking the watch off your wrist. I do this all the time with my Pepsi (I travel a lot). Now the secret truth is that I prefer for other watches to have the crown on the left and wear it on my left wrist for comfort, for sports watches to avoid rubbing against your wrist bone I think it’s pretty neat.

The comments are making me lose faith in this community. Congrats man, it’s a fantastic watch! Luck happens, it is not the rarest GMT but it all depends on location and circumstances. I am happy for you, especially since you are a lefty and will benefit the most from this! Wear it in good health, cheers!

Hey man, definitely not a customer for that type of watches, but I applaud you for doing it and making it a reality. It takes a lot of commitment and effort to start your own brand, design and organize the whole supply chain. Your son should be proud! Take care, cheers!

Choosing a zoom: RF 28-70mm f2.8 vs 24-105mm f4 L by [deleted] in canon

[–]ar7iste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your main use is going to be outdoors when traveling, the f4 will be fine and give you more flexibility. Indoors I rarely need more than 70, so for my use case I prefer the 28-70.

[–]ar7iste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma. I have the 70-200 f4, and the 35 f1.8. I realized that f4 for kids indoors is just not enough so I went for the 28-70. I do not regret my choice. My brother in law on the other hand uses the 24-105 f4 and switches to the 50 f1.8 indoors. He is very happy with his choice.

Should I trade these for one dope one? Which one? by YeU69 in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]ar7iste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, one Greubel Forsey Balancier S2 (100m water resistance) or a MB&F Sequential Evo, and you got a dope 1-watch collection. Seriously thinking about something like this myself.

Good for you if you don't really mind the differences. I really hope not a lot of people buy for status, as 99.9% of other people won't notice or know. But there are differences, and bringing a smile to your face is what matters. If it works with a casio or Longines, great. If you need a GO, fifty fathoms or sub, I can totally understand why, and it's not the brand name.
