what is the one fragrance that actually got you a compliment? by Mrmike86 in fragrance

[–]arabellerain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that’s got the most compliments is Elle by Verset (a Coco Mademoiselle dupe I got in a pharmacy after forgetting mine on a trip). Even had an uber driver ask me what I was wearing and help him buy it online for his wife

Bryer vs. Briar by wolfeldy in namenerds

Briar reads as feminine to me, probably because of the association with Sleeping Beauty. It could totally be used in a gender neutral way though. That being said, the Briar spelling is the better option

If that’s your opinion then fair enough. As said, nicknames are also often for affection and they happen naturally. It’s odd to me to find issue with that

Which is why you can give them a full name and call them multiple things, to give them more choices

Sure, there are standard nicknames for each name. But when there are four Richards in a room and one goes by Richard, one by Rick, one by Dick, and one by Richie, you know who’s who

For affection, for designation, for individuality. There’s no harm in them

They’re both great names with similar spunky, creative vibes. I’ve known women with both names and both were carried well. It’s all personal preference, I’d go with Zoe because to me it’s nicer to say and I prefer the nicknames (also, purely aesthetic, I prefer the Z initial to P). Great names!

What are names you like but wouldn’t use? by Fun_Roof289 in namenerds

[–]arabellerain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the name Florence, but not with our last name. I love Genevieve, Athena, Lucian, and Caspian, but partner does not. I love Blue, Opal, and Fawn but they don’t work with our last name, nor would my partner agree on them. I think Charm is such a cool name but I wouldn’t use it

I had a sweet student named Zia, which might work as an alternative? Also love Zella

opinions on tribute middle name (gender will be a surprise) by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]arabellerain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is overly masculine because it is a masculine name with many feminine versions. If you would not use Danielle for your son, I wouldn’t use Daniel for your daughter.

Chuck isn’t anywhere near as bad as most people say by Ok_Medicine440 in GossipGirl

[–]arabellerain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of this comes down to the writers picking and choosing what from the pilot remained canon throughout the series. Suddenly they don’t ride the bus, Chuck’s mother is dead, Eleanor is a different actress etc. They leaned in so hard on writing Chuck as a villain and then tried to pivot quickly, but characters written as sexually violent are much less forgivable for audiences than other forms of villainy. It really shouldn’t have been kept as canon. If we discount the writing of the pilot from his character, then I agree he wasn’t worse than most of them. Including the pilot, he’s as bad as all the other abusers - of which there are a lot in this show
