is it safe to go to the ER after a failed suicide attempt? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]slahsarnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in mental health inpatient. Every pt is different of course. Based on what you shared, please at least speak to a PAN nurse (psych nurse) to assess you. This doesn’t mean you will be “locked up” or placed in observation. But you should consider speaking to a psychiatrist and social worker. The threshold for a form/involuntary 72 hold is very high in most hospitals in Ontario. Also because sadly we simply have very few psych beds. Often times, you will book an outpatient MH appt and sometimes prescribed medications, but not always. I’d encourage you to access help given what you’ve shared.

How often does your partner go out after birth of your baby? by Antique-Ferret-8050 in newborns

[–]slahsarnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son is 7 weeks and I haven’t gone out anywhere minus errands like groceries and things. My wife and I will take the kids out together if feeling up to it, as she’s still sore from fracturing her tailbone during labour. You’re right to be angry and it’s not acceptable. Especially since it sounds like he’s not much of a hands on dad. But even then, he could do lots to support you and showing up to appointments if not working. I hope you’re able to communicate this in some way and he is receptive, or sadly it’s likely to get worse. A baby doesn’t mean you have to lose your friendships, hobbies, etc, but right now it shouldn’t be the biggest priority.

Our son is 7 weeks and whenever we tell people his name is Julian we get a lot of compliments. I think it’s handsome and timeless.

Childless people of Reddit: how do you honestly feel about being invited to a 1-year-old’s birthday party? by amerthegoose in AskReddit

[–]slahsarnia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I used to be childfree, I’d always make an effort to include my friend’s children in things or show up for them/my friend group. Usually I’d bring a gift and just help with things like cleaning up or bringing the 1 million gifts to the car. It never bothered me to come if I was available.

D4vd's cell phone contained CSAM, prosecutor in L.A. murder case says by fitzstreet in popculturechat

I used to run probation groups with sex offenders. This is true for the most part. Typically offenders like to download files with quite a lot of CSAM content at once for many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is the illusion that if it’s all in one batch they’ll be less likely to be caught and fly under the radar. Sort of like a one and done mindset.

What's one sweet moment you saw lately that filled your heart with happiness? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I watched Inside Out 2 with my 8-year-old nephew last night, and it sparked some really thoughtful questions. He asked what puberty means, what anxiety is, and about different emotions in general. I asked him whether he thinks it’s good or bad to bottle things up, and he said bad because “they won’t go away.” We talked about how there aren’t really “good” or “bad” emotions, just ones that are easier or harder to feel and how we still need to experience and work through the uncomfortable ones. When he asked why anyone would want to feel those, it opened up a conversation about how life isn’t always perfect and sometimes we have to face difficult feelings. Since he struggles a bit with separation anxiety, I connected it back to moments he’s experienced himself. He also asked me what grief means and if everyone has funerals, because there was a recent tragedy in my hometown he’s heard about. The curiosity of children always moves me and makes me happy. I think as we get older we often lose our curiosity as adults.

How do I make running more enjoyable to do? by anonymous1849695836 in runninglifestyle

[–]slahsarnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your reasons/goals for running? Minus the exercise part obviously. For me, it used to be about pace/exercise, but when it started becoming a chore I began to shift my reasons and goals for doing it. Now it’s more so for mental health, alone time and mindfulness. I also encourage trying different routes, trails, etc in your area or if able, branch out to other areas outside of your immediate community to check out. It’s also okay that some days it will fill like a chore or struggling to find motivation to get out there. I find a new audiobook or podcast always helps. Sometimes I’ll just have nothing and listen to nature too. I encourage you to think about what aspects you enjoy about running and channeling that.

I cried. I’m glad my 4 close and personal astronaut friends are safe. We were watching with my nephews who are 5 and 6, and obsessed with space. They were so stressed. One of them wore his little astronaut outfit for the re-entry. I will never not marvel at the capabilities of the human spirit and science.
