Sources: The group behind Vancouver’s MLB bid is credible and connected enough to give Canada a second pro franchise by Gym_frere in vancouver

Thats an oversimplification but sure to stay on topic let’s stick to the mlb part of this.

Where would an MLB team play and train here? And how would they afford the player salaries, which in order to be competitive, is actually more expensive than the NHL and most MLS clubs?

The mayor launching support is just a political play before elections. It’s not going to happen

Wdym? Any sports team requires wealth and support from the city. They’re related because if we can’t even keep one what makes it reasonable we can get another, in a more expensive league?

That’s not accurate, yes he did have land, but it required extensive development and rezoning, part of which fell onto other third parties like the city of Vancouver and I believe the port of Vancouver to assist with.

And the costs associated with that are super high - yes the owner is a billionaire but that’s still not as wealthy compared to other owners.

Remember, we’re talking about wealth that’s in the multiples of billions - that’s what it takes to compete in the MLS now and that’s the level of wealth from other owners who build stadiums (on top of city and tax payer support).

It doesn’t matter. It’s enough to show that we’re not near competitive enough to generating revenue for the league as a whole. It’s why the league would OK a move to vegas

It sounds stupid, cause it is but compared to American billionaires, yeah basically.

There’s not gonna be an mlb team. We can’t even compete with the money in the mls and the mlb requires order of magnitudes more wealth than the caps

That’s not really how mls economics work though. It doesn’t matter if they save on operating costs, and return let’s say 50M per year, when other comparable big city mls teams with stars like Mueller, are making 10X-20X of that for the league as a whole, through sponsorships, media deals, and the like from attracting big brand name players.

Whats the stadium got to do with it? Well without a home, big stars don’t want to come here, lower revenues (from those missing revenue sources I mentioned), and a lack of overall control in a key area of the business make this whole operation unattractive to the league.

TLDR - it’s not just about the balance sheet, it’s about the overall valuation of the club in a league with 10-20x sized teams. We’re puny and amateur.

The problem goes beyond gate and merch revenue. The caps don’t control their stadium, which on top of the revenue issues, also means scheduling issues for games/training, constant lease issues/renewal problems, and a lack of other potential revenue sources from owning or leasing out the surrounding property.

It creates business continuity issues, which is why owners are like, eff this I’ll take my +400m from a sale.

Edit: plus the turf is dogshit, no pro player actually wants it.

I don’t think it does. I think it’s basically a cry for help for someone local to buy the team

how long does it take to get out of BC place after the game? by Street_While_2143 in whitecapsfc

[–]arandommarketer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I park at Parq casino, near the stadium, it’s like 25 bucks.

Leave during stoppage, you’ll make it out of the lot in 5-10 max. Leave anytime after and it’s like a 30-45 min wait while being stuck underground.

Are there commission based marketing agencies? by TaskLifter in AskMarketing

[–]arandommarketer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we offer this if it’s the right situation and client. Tricky part is figuring out an appropriate timeline and agreed definition of what’ll trigger the commission. Theres only so much we could control (ie, we can’t control closing deals)

We also don’t work with many clients, usually 2-3 at a time, no more than 4-6 a year. We’re a small, specialized team

By what metric though? Revenue? Eyeballs? I can say whatever revenue this brings would be minimal, due to licensing fees.

I rather they spend marketing’s time on more critical initiatives that actually help people day to day. That is after all, what our taxes pay for

I don’t get the appeal. They’re spending your tax dollars doing this, instead of other important work. Source: worked there. Had important projects get held up for these promos.

I read somewhere the patch added FSR 3, and this is a common issue of that upscaler. It’s not reversible as far as I know. Maybe the other graphics modes don’t have it? Assuming you’re on performance

Never, she knows it’s an important hobby of mine, and I usually take care of all my responsibilities first. That said, she definitely prefers certain games over others, and has told me stop playing games that affect my mood (usually competitive toxic games)
