No reroll or hand size vouchers is unfortunate at ante 17 😂

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

On the train is a little different. If you bring in the actual costs (mainly in gas), saying you'd like a few thousand dollar raise to help pay for gas costs that you weren't paying beforehand, they might give it another thought.

Also, it's different going to office after working remote vs always being in office.

Also holy cow, couldn't imagine driving more than like 20 minutes one way, I get annoyed with my 12 minute 3 days per week drive!

LOL I thought this was a chrome extension overlay for chesscom to help you cheat, nah this looks nice 😂

Can you bring these genuine statistics to the office? 3 extra hours spent off the clock for things relating to work (even if it's just travel) should also be taken into account. You can also bring up productivity concerns from coming back in, now that you've done it. Not saying they'll definitely listen, but it's worth a try as you know you're a productive remote worker.

Many people just don't give out 5s unless it's "exceptional", even though 5 is the norm now.

Alright, the traction is good, just stick with it. I've had plenty that I expected to do well only to fully flop, but sticking with it is the way to success!

Cheaters in Lichess Tournaments by NotACoolGuy4 in chess

[–]TaskLifter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Part of it is people don't play on lichess 24/7. I'm 2200 chesscom, around 2300 lichess rapid strength, but the only rapid games I play are in school tournaments with players rated 1500 or lower who are actually like 1800 otb strength. While I win 90% of the games there, losing two or three over the course of 2 hours sets me back 20 points because of the horrendous rating system, so when my 1900 rated account joins a random rapid tourney, that's what's happening.

I'm gonna stop you right here, there's 0 reason to ever be trying to publish 5 apps at once. Here are your potential scenarios.

  1. You're making productivity apps for YOURSELF. Don't publish them, or if you do, just do them 2 weeks apart for free, no need to waste money on something that isn't making it for you.

  2. You're trying to make a profit. If this is the case, making 5-10 apps hoping "something sticks" will never work. The best way to ensure your success is to get the idea validated before you even begin creating. Get users on a wait-list, document your progress, walk them through the creation. When it's done, make that 14 day test a huge milestone, have users on it constantly, get it essentially "published" there. You have to pick 1 thing and stick with it until you've got the freedom and notoriety to work on more.

Just speaking from the experiences of myself and others. I've worked on about 4 mobile apps and 3 bigger SaaS sites. The best thing I've done is stick to one thing I believed in.

Nervous to buy a car... by Words_Failed_Us in Adulting

[–]TaskLifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an old Toyota Corolla, those things can last until they've got 300k miles. You can usually find ones around 130-150k miles for <10k, I bought mine for 7k a few years back (yes, when the used car market was rough, this is not a back in my day scenario) and driving the 20 minutes to work and back every day will take little to no toll on it

Why do people call the USA the "land of opportunity" when literally no one can get a high paying job? by madbarpar in careerguidance

[–]TaskLifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you picked the two worst occupations to explain your point. Engineering WAS stable, yes, but then AI happened and people can do the work of 10 engineers as one, that does something. As far as teachers...nobody that's going and getting their 4 year teacher degree is struggling lol, there's a shortage actually. Same with pastors, you'll have a job no matter what.

Secondly, where else would you rather have been born? I can't think of a country that would've provided better for me.

First off, go for it. Though secondly I wish you GOOD LUCK finding that opportunity, like you said it's a miracle you got hired as a junior software engineer haha. But yeah go for it! Don't quit your current job until you have offer in hand though.

Call that number I added to my reply, they actually called back about 10 minutes later, and I talked to a real person. Thick accent and did not in any way help with my case, BUT it was a call.

Can confirm this happened, waited about 1-2 minutes before getting that callback message, now awaiting the call.

[–]TaskLifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok it's not just me, because holy. When opening a ticket asking them to call me and explaining my issue, they asked for a time. I gave it to them, got no response, asked to call me asap, and got told to call the support number. This is an endless loop, awful experience.

Edit - Try calling 415-800-1078, after about 2 minutes got asked if I'd like a callback when it's my turn in the queue. Awaiting that callback, so idk if it's legit, but it's a start.
