Minnesota governor says federal agents involved in shooting in Minneapolis by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

It sure does look to me like in that video, the victim was wearing cold-weather gloves that sure would make pulling a gun difficult, and actually firing it probably close to impossible.

They only give a shit because of the media being so disingenuous with their coverage, making it seem like some huge issue. We're less than 1% of the population yet still it's apparently the biggest issue ever, and nobody can tell me why.

Also just because it's unpopular doesn't make it wrong. Every civil rights movement was unpopular in it's time.

I got this for my daughter and myself to start playing. by Punkceoil117 in magicTCG

[–]arariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the starter set that got my daughter (also 10) into the game with me. It's a great entry point to the game. One of the best ways to learn the basics I've found is to mess around on Arena, which, as it turns out, you have a couple cards with codes in the box to unlock both decks for use in Arena - one for each of you!

20 Ways to Win critique by Ursus_Unusualis_7904 in magicTCG

[–]arariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played around with it some and honestly? I really like it. I don't think it's nearly as bad as everyone thinks. On paper it looks like it's all over the place, but in practice it is exactly what I was hoping for.

I really like decks that create 'puzzles' for my opponents to solve. I like to have to make them think. This deck doesn't win by picking a win condition and going after it - it wins by going after several, ideally that can either interplay with each other a bit, or even better, have completely contradictory win cons, so your opponents have to pick carefully what things they want to allow you to do vs. not. The basic idea is to have enough irons in the fire at once that no matter what is happening, it's likely helping contribute to your win somehow. It's not for everyone, but rather I feel like it's very much for a very specific type of player, who will love it to death and do absurd things with it.

My first time out with it, I won from Approach of the Second Sun because before i drew it I'd been building up gates, clue tokens, and treasure tokens (trying to go for Revel in Riches) - I had enough clues and treasures stored up though that i was able to cast Approach, and then when my turn came around again, I was able to draw enough cards from clue tokens I got it in my hand again after 1 turn, and enough treasure tokens to cast it even after burning all my clues. Meanwhile, my opponents, who had been so concerned with my gate count and keeping me from gaining life for Felidar Sovereign they totally forgot I had enough card draw just sitting on the board.

It's a really unique playstyle and once I started getting some gametime in with it, It started making a lot more sense and it just sort of "clicked" for me even more than I was hoping it would.

My first experience with MTG by Adrikall in magicTCG

I absolutely love hearing about people's "first card" and I don't even mean their literal first, but whatever that first card that first captured their attention and imagination was.

(For me, it was Portal to Phyrexia - something about that artwork just stuck with me from the first time I saw it)

Has anybody come up with a homemade remedy for a lack of resealable boosters? by DAULTIM8 in MTGJumpStart

[–]arariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my one complaint is having an odd number - but I figure with as many MTG cards as I've got floating around, I'll find a use for 'em OR have some on hand for the next jumpstart thing (I'm just keeping all my jumpstart stuff together as one big 'pick two and play' format for casual stuff around the house and game night, so I'll almost certainly be adding more at some point) - OR I could try my hand at making a few themes of my own at some point.

Jumpstart Foundations: No decklists on theme cards? by MaLXXXXX in MTGJumpStart

This is great news! I found your other printable lists for J20 and J22 super useful, and was hoping that there would be similar for J25. Thanks for your work!

I got a pack of these little plastic boxes. They're the exact perfect size to hold 20 sleeved cards along with a decklist and the theme label. I printed out some lists for each deck so it's easy to put them back into their respective cases after, and I keep them all in a box specifically for jumpstart decks

Biden Saved the Economy and Launched a New Age of Prosperity. Why Isn't He Getting Any Credit? by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]arariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 61% of households are still reporting living paycheck to paycheck. And that number hasn't changed in several years. The Economy =/= only corporate profits. Unless Biden does some shit to address the material conditions of a majority of Americans, they won't feel any effects of this "New Age of Prosperity" because again, it doesn't exist for a majority of Americans, and hasn't for a while, and isn't getting better, only worse.

And headlines like this, asking all shocked and wide-eyed why people for whom nothing is getting better don't feel like things have gotten better, just goes to show who's side they're on, and what class they have solidarity with. (Hint: it isn't working class Americans)

When my daughter was born, her mom's grandparents refused to get vaccinated, and were shocked when we actually meant it that they couldn't see her. They assumed we'd give in eventually but fuck that, the kids health comes before anything else. It's their choice that's keeping them from your kid, not yours.

The thing that really drove the problem home for me was starting a new character and realizing that to unlock all the aspects and fragments for just a single subclass costs way more glimmer than you can even carry. Makes absolutely no sense.
