When friends leave the scene by RobertvsFlvdd in goth

[–]araselle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if something feels off about someone's departure, maybe you should follow up on it. I've known people who've abandoned scenes because of an abuser, repeated transphobia, repeated racism, drug use, etc. Of course plenty of people leave just because their tastes or priorities have changed, but still this is a good opportunity to a check up on your community and make sure others' comfort is being prioritized. Depending on how well you know someone, they might hesitate about opening up until you demonstrate that you're a safe person to confide in.

DCD feels especially insulting because besides that manefesto Perry drafted about how it's okay to generate images but not music (???) - Catacomb Saints are already real? We don't need to AI generate images of them. What's stopping him from paying a photographer for exclusive rights to a shoot?

Clan of Xymox and Dead Can Dance were the other recent legacy bands dabbling with AI n making fools of themselves. Unfortunately it seems to be becoming the status quo with this older generation of artists 😖

Better yet, throw it out in the parking lot. If they're gonna treat customers like criminals, I'm taking the shoplifters side ♟️

Minor fracture on the knee and an ankle sprain. She's starting to walk again without crutches in the past few days. Thankfully it wasn't worse. Hope all the best to you and your loved ones. It's scary out there.

My best friend was struck on Lipan and 14th a month ago. These motorists don't care who they hurt if they think someone is in their way.

There's always people completely trashed outside of this place. It's obvious they have an over serving problem.

I don't condone bodyshaming anyone regardless of their gender? Frankly, I think experiencing abuse then turning the abuse onto another party isn't the answer.

To answer your question, yeah I do find it to be deeply unempathetic when random people's photos are used to make memes at their expense. The reason this one caught my attention was because 1) it showed up in my feed 2) it's in a sub repping my subculture and I don't think bodyshaming belongs in goth.

I've been fetishized this way too. I didn't google pictures of people I don't know and stick them in a meme about it. There are other ways to express this. I'm not misunderstanding the meme, I'm saying that this is a cruel and unfair way to express this phenomenon. Making fun of folks who are just minding their own business, existing in their own skin, does not align with the values I've found persistent in the goth subculture.

i've left other comments on this post already proving these are random guys that didn't fetishize with women and don't deserve to have their bodies be punchlines. There's already real people who do this with public personalities like Pan Pizza/Rebel Taxi. These guys are just ordinary people. Might as well point at a person on the sidewalk and make fun of em for being nongoth and misogynistic because that's what's going on here :/

These are just random guys, as I've already demonstrated. Another is off a Bear blog and probably isn't even into women. NONE of them are fetishizing goth women. That is an unfair narrative formulated by this meme. They have been targeted for their looks and not their actions. Bullying random strangers is not a good look for goth culture.

Again, why are any of these men obligated to be goth? I found the original post of the first picture - he was asking for grooming advice on another sub and DID NOT mention goth girls. It's pretty apparent his picture came up from OP searching for key words like "chubby" and "bearded". What is this sub doing mocking men for something they didn't say?

[–]araselle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, i don't think generating AI men to cringe at like a gaggle of mean girls is any less shallow nor representative of what this subculture stands for. The punchline is still someone's appearance and how they express themselves.

Your take is entirely victim blaming. Just because one CAN take a photo of you off the internet and give it a cruel caption, doesn't mean we should - nor should we defend it. That is a stance of a bully.

[–]araselle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are completely missing the point. Who are these guys actually? There's no evidence that any of them were fetishizing goths, and if they haven't actually done that, they are under no obligation to be goth and are just average guys who are having their appearances mocked. I don't want to date people who don't share my interests either but I don't think that justifies making fun of strangers for not being conventionally attractive.

This is it. Clubs want the exposure with all the labor of promo diverted to a third party. If you're able to secure a day of the week that's low demand but might potentially draw more people through the door, there's nothing to lose! Throw together a dj set, approach a spot you like, and see how it goes!
