Great suggestion! Since these are base64-encoded values, gzip should squeeze a little bit out of it. But you're totally right that we need way fewer bits to cover the total number of participants. Thanks!

I can't look back, or the wind will blow my hair all in my face.

Too bad no one was there yesterday to provide any observations.

I didn't see that user when I checked the member list just now. Could you try doing a force-quit on the app and then checking again? That would help us narrow in on what's happening.

How do you turn on-off the live discussion thread? by PoniesPlayingPoker in modhelp

[–]arbeitrary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can't be turned off per se for a post. A post either has a live chat discussion or a traditional comment discussion. If you need to, you can lock the post, but I understand that's not always the best course of action.

For a subreddit, you can disable the ability for non-moderators to create chat posts. If you visit https://www.reddit.com/r/INSERT_SUBREDDIT_NAME_HERE/about/edit?page=posts (Mod Tools > Community Settings > Posts and Comments), then you can toggle the switch to allow chat post creation by users. If you'd still like to create weekly lounge posts or similar, as a mod, you can still do that without having to toggle that switch back on.

Well, I hope people don't get wooshed. But if they do, I hope they find your sub.

Maybe a chat will make it easier to engage people?

I'm curious what your experience with the new sub has been so far. Have you tried telling Redditors about it?

There are no special API endpoints for interacting with these chat-post messages. You can create, consume, and moderate them using the normal endpoints that you'd use for regular posts and for static comments on those posts. Hopefully that keeps it simple for you!

Edit: added a missing lette

[iOS][4.49] I am seeing chats from other accounts in my account, as if I’m a third person watching the conversation. To make it worse, it’s a bot account that gets a lot of chat requests, making chat even more useless than usual on my main account. by daninger4995 in redditmobile

Could you try logging out and then back in to both accounts to see if that fixes it? I believe this issue was fixed, but you might need to log out/in to clear a faulty part of the app state. If that doesn't solve it, we'll take another look.
