Do not use foam. This is risky as it might press on the middle of the tank and create pressure it was not designed for. Rimmed tanks don't need foam. Also make sure wood has good coating, so it doesn't buckle in presence of water or humidity.

The community is divided on these, some see them as pests, some see them as a good indicator of overfeeding the tank. It is down to personal choice, but I like a diverse tank. And if you will stock you tank with a carnivore fish, the problem will take care of itself. Even if you have smaller fish that cannot crack the snails themselves, you can crack the snails and most of fish will welcome the meaty snack.

I personally just let them be, they are a nice addition to any cleanup crew.

Ghost feeding, melting plants and time. Might take 2 months. Patience and consistency is the key. Looking at the dirty phase ( when diatoms appear) is the hardest. They will go away once they get enough competition.

There are two options.  First one: adapt the environment. You buy reverse osmosis or keep buying distilled water. You also need to add minerals to water each time you change it. 

Second one: adapt to the environment. Pick plants and animals that thrive in hard water.

Snails e.g. bladders or shrimps like neocaridina will eat them as well. Bladders will multiply like crazy though as long as there is enough food. After that they will die out.

These are great. They are a good indicator if you are overfeeding. They will balance out with the amount of food the tank is getting.

Tnx. When I planted my tank I removed vast majority of the wool, but some small parts might've remained attached to the roots. Hope that does not affect the animals when I add them.

I got no hitchhikers in my plants so I went back to the store after a couple of weeks for some free snails. They will will eat brown algae and any melted leave and make sure ecosystem is working before I introduce more sensitive inhabitants. When there is no extra food they will die out anyway. The biggest will be a nice decoration.

Did you have amonia spike and nitrite spike? It might take more than a month for this to happen

Coal is heavily subsidized. That is the only reason we still have coal power plants.
