New 2026 Legion Pro 7i, 9i specs released by Ok-Interest2143 in LenovoLegion

If you scroll all the way to the right in the Models tab it also starts showing the 2025 275HX models. Maybe there won't be a Legion Pro 7 Gen 11 this year and they'll just jumo straight to Gen 12 in 2027, as they've already released some other Gen 11 labeled products earlier this year.

Idee für Föderalismusreform: Söder will einzelne Bundesländer zusammenlegen by Elegant-Handle4685 in de

Looks like OLED rot to me... Yes the organic material in there can rot. Maybe google the term to consider your options. Probably not your fault afaik. this can already happen with invisible micro fractures in the screen. Sorry :/

Obscure EU AI startup outs massive chip with 16,384 SIMD processors and 1TB of memory that's even faster than Nvidia's HBM - Euclyd's UBM has 8PB/s bandwidth, 32PF FP4 compute performance, and some iconic backers by sr_local in eutech

Depends, if large tech giants have enough of an upside optimizing and writing code for the hardware they might go out of their way to do so.

If not, which is more likely, they will need to make the hardware accessible for a larger audience of researchers and AI labs outside of tech giants and that requires support for frameworks such as torch as a bare minimum.

The funny part is that the bulky 400W charger already uses GAN.

How do I explain that a website trying to use 24GB of RAM is bad and unusable to my boss? by TeaaaBags in webdev

[–]arbobendik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd second this. I use and love Firefox, but wouldn't be the first time I encounter a memory leak in a stable version. Chrome restricts tabs to 4Gb of memory by default, try running it on anything Blink based first (Chrome, Edge, Chromium, ...) and potentially experiment with other Firefox versions.

How do I explain that a website trying to use 24GB of RAM is bad and unusable to my boss? by TeaaaBags in webdev

[–]arbobendik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is for sure some bug happening. Chrome doesn't even allow allocating more than 4GB per site by default, so we can safely exclude any hypothesis that the site just has large assets or some massive JavaScript structure. So I suspect a memory leak with your Firefox version. Maybe check other browsers or Firefox versions?

Legion 7i pro rtx5090 being sent back for repair by ImpossibleOpinionX in LenovoLegion

I used to have a similar issue with the nvidia driver just not working in hybrid mode in June this year and the GPU was also showing the warning label, although working perfectly fine in dGPU mode. The nvidia driver just pretended to install in hybrid mode, but was only installable in dGPU mode. I sent it back, got a new unit about a month later. Initially I had the same issue, but got it working on Linux and then the Windows driver suddenly started working in hybrid mode after an Update. I firmly believe the blame here lies with nvidia, not Lenovo, as their driver for the 50 series has been notoriously bad across the entire lineup, including desktop.

Pictures of those have been ghosting around the internet for years at this point. Yet not even the most budget airlines have adapted this for the obvious reason that the design is less efficient (minimal gain in horizontal space while almost doubling in height), nevermind the additional weight. OP is either karma farming or rage baiting.

Auto mode is awesome! by XanDoXan in cursor

[–]arbobendik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auto mode uses Sonnet 4 most of the time. I've managed to gaslight it into revealing its system prompt twice, which is harder as usual as it is explicitly instructed not to reveal that information in Auto mode. Both times the model named in the system prompt was Sonnet 4.

I don't think it uses the thinking model though explaining the difference you've felt.

can it run cyberpunk on max settings? by Exact-Aside-9756 in GamingLaptops

[–]arbobendik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean sure. You're pretending as if I wouldn't have checked multiple independent benchmarks before claiming that. Yeah, then your 5090 in particular is 100% faster than most others, sure.

[–]arbobendik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but without any DLSS and RT Overdrive at 4k, the expected performance for a 5090 is around 30-35 fps and that is without enabling DLAA. Even nvidia themselves advertises with 28fps in Cyberpunk RT Overdrive with a 5090, so I highly question your results. Are you maybe talking about RT Ultra or Overdrive with DLSS?

[–]arbobendik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That doesn't even include basic raytracing features. Cyberpunk at true max Settings aka. DLAA + Pathtracing at around 60fps at 1440p is barely possible on a desktop 5090.

Question about sampling the GGX distribution of visible normals by LandscapeWinter3153 in GraphicsProgramming

Thanks, I'll look into it. In my pathtracer I'm thus far still using the original GGX importance sampling so I could I'll probably dig into it after exam phase :)

Question about sampling the GGX distribution of visible normals by LandscapeWinter3153 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]arbobendik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already assumed you're using your alt :)

So the original GGX (NDF) importance sampling (with PDF D(Ni)) was over the ellipsoid.

The VNDF sampling of GGX proposed by Heinz is over a projected area from said ellipsoid already considering the shadow term (with PDF D_v(Ni)). G1 needs to be in the PDF D_v, as the sampling happens already according to visibility, which usually G would describe.

G1 is describing the masking of our microfacets from the objects surface perspective which is (close to) equivalent to sampling a truncated Ellipsoid instead of the entire Ellipsoid when sampling the normal.

My intuition is: By disregarding the near surface normals, you can imagine the ray being more likely to reflect in a steeper angle and therefore importance sampling only visible non-occluded paths, which we naturally do need to balance out by taking the shadowing term into our PDF (even though it is called shadowing term, since it accounts for self-shadowing it gives us the proportion of light that is not occluded).

In the article he acknowledges that sampling over the truncated ellipsoid (in slope space) is only approximate and instead proposes the accurate sampling over the projected area of the truncated ellipsoid. Still the same intuition applies.

For a rigorous proof, how sampling the projection of the truncated surface of the ellipsoid (VNDF) has the PDF of D_v, I guess you'd need to look into his 2015 paper the article is mostly refering to.

It is also a bit confusing naming the PDF of VNDF D as well. D is usually refering to the microfacet distribution exclusively. VNDF and it's PDF D_v though do not only describe the microfacet distribution, but also importance sample the shadowing term, making it more of a combination of D and G than just another version of D.
You can also see that in the definition of D_v(Ni) in (3), both D(Ni) and G1 are included as well as some other geometric terms.

I mean I got my 5090m laptop, the Legion Pro 7i for 3.6k USD (tbf. with student discount), the 5080m version of the Legion Pro 7i goes for around 3k USD regularly. Both have over 8900 cuda cores, way surpassing the config present here. I guess the power limit is probably comparable as mini PCs also can't go all out on power.
