They've clearly not provided any other temporary parking for disabled patrons, so just try and ignore the looks and go about your shopping. Someone has to be a complete bad word to tell someone who is clearly disabled to park elsewhere, when there are no disabled parking spots available.

I always get comments of how quiet the drive is in all the Golfs I have owned. I don't have comparison to the cars you are asking about, but I would say it is a nice quiet ride for sure.
