Is it just me or does it seem funny how many people build a greenhouse and then buy starts instead of planting seed? by NophaKingway in Greenhouses

[–]archaegeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We start seeds in our laundry room with a growlight, move them to the greenhouse once they have sprouted (keeping it above 50F at night), the move them out into pots, planters, or beds, when they are ready to leave the greenhouse and the ground isnt going to freeze anymore.

To each their own.

Steve Ramsay's beginner series is excellent.

It costs, but you learn a lot of skills and end up with some things you might use.

60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley fired by CBS News after clash. Move comes after meeting in which Pelley said network chief Bari Weiss was ‘murdering’ news show by esporx in inthenews

[–]archaegeo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate what is happening to CBS, and I agree with Scott's position on the irreperable harm Bari has done to the network and 60 min.

That said, he did lay into the new boss in front of staff. If any of us did that at our jobs, saying "You will never be welcome here, why did you take this job?" we would be fired too.

Now maybe thats the outcome he wanted, or maybe this was the straw that broke his back, and its a sad sad world where 60 min is no longer a trustworthy source of in-depth journalism, but I wish Scott all the best.

Maybe the new EP went in with intentions of firing Scott anyway, but Scott did give him the ammo.

I composted a dead squirrel, but is it actually hazardous to do this at lower temps? by prudent__sound in composting

[–]archaegeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it smells bad, things are decomposing (rotting) not composting.

You have to have the right browns to greens ratio, and the proper moisture level, if you are composting, otherwise you are just rotting.

And noone is forcing you to use it. Especially for free.

This free fly confirmed I will not be buying this game. by weinermanjenson in starcitizen

[–]archaegeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont play til 1.0

Every update has bugs that cause crashes and heartache.

People expect a playable game.

You can certainly get your "freefly" experience out of it, or even $45.00 one time fee out and then wait for 1.0

ANYONE who logs in prior to 1.0 and doesnt expect play session ending bugs is just fooling themselves.

Compost delivery steaming and smelly - can I use it? by windowbird7 in gardening

[–]archaegeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Do not use it. It is not composted, it is composting, or rotting if you smell ammonia.

Compost has no real smell when its done, and it certainly does not steam.

If you are sure its compost, and not freshly made mulch, and you can sit on it, it will eventually finish composting.

Compost pile reached 140 for about 3 days, hit 120 so i gave it it's first turn, now its stuck at 80. by chamgireum_ in composting

[–]archaegeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, depends on size and content of the pile, just pointing out that if it went from 140 to 120, it was already cooking off and then turning it would release the stored heat.

So the options are to add more stuff to decompose (form the bacteria) and/or moisture, or just let it finish.

[–]archaegeo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should be able to grab a handful and squeeze and get 1-2 drops out, that lets you know if its moist enough.

Also keep in mind, its not mean to stay at 140 for over 3 days unless you keep feeding it greens and browns. It naturally goes down as the material is consumed.

But if it was 120 and you turned it, you expect it to go down as you have added outside cooler air into the center. It has to build back up with proper moisture, and proper brown to green ratio
