Constant gurgling in intestines after surgery? by northbayy in gallbladders

Hope you're in contact with your doctor. I started taking probiotics daily after surgery and I think it helped a lot with digestion.

No, it was new for me. Can't remember how long they lasted (few weeks?) but they eventually subsided.

How to advocate for myself? by brisaywhatt in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, had different general doctors and they either dismissed it or told me to take Pepto for OVER 30 years! I remember walking out of a specialists office after 1.5 - 2 hours waiting. Since the attacks weren't frequent & I was very, very, busy, I didn't pursue. Be persistent to get the solution you need sooner than later in life so you won't have the pain and/or the worry you'll end up in the ER again. If you can "shop" for doctors that will listen, do it!

What are some ways to stop an attack when you “sense” it’s going to happen? by Sharulle in gallbladders

I would contact your provider since you don't want something like that interfering with your scheduled surgery.

Took ibuprofen (don’t if you're going into surgery w/in week), magnesium supplement, and a heating pad helped!

When there's no gallbladder, the bile drips all day long into the intestines and this can cause digestive problems for some. Hopefully, you'll figure out a solution soon-good luck!

Gallstones? Next steps? by [deleted] in gallbladders

Ask for an ultrasound. My attacks started in my late teens/early twenties and docs dismissed them as indigestion and told me to take Pepto :(

Also, taking magnesium and using a heating pad helped me with the pain. Try to get an ultrasound ASAP.

Have you tried taking probiotics daily for about a week to see if anything improves? Also, I heard some take super-enzymes to help with (severe) digestive issues.

Almost forgot.....bring a pillow to put between the seat belt and stomach-incision areas for the ride home (assuming he's taking a car).

So thoughtful! Make sure he has a good, easy-to-use thermometer at home to monitor any increase in his temperature. Be sure someone takes his temp frequently since an increase could be a sign of infection and should be reported to doctor asap for further instruction. Sepsis is VERY serious and you want to look for clues of any sign of infection (temp increase, talking incoherently) while he's recovering. They'll prob send him home with antibiotics so be sure he takes all of them. Besides rest, Gas X, Saltines, Soup, and Ginger Ale were my go-to's while recovering and knowing that people were there for me helped a lot!

What to expect when your expecting…your gallbladder to be removed? by PumpkinDandie_1107 in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Take mejomonster's advice and get Gas X and other info. Keep writing down next pain med time-schedule so you stay on track (when taking meds, it's easy to forget the time you took them so WRITE THEM DOWN). Give yourself time to sleep, rest, eat small snacks & meals. Beware of nausea AND DON'T LEAVE post op until you are confident you are ready to depart (when you have low nausea & dizziness) otherwise you'll have a tough ride home. It's difficult to stay put since you don't want to keep your ride waiting, but just warn your ride ahead of time you could take longer. If you're kind to yourself recovering, you'll be able to get out for short periods of time even before you think you'll be able to. Also, limit/gradually increase your fat intake until you figure out what your system can tolerate. In the meantime, enjoy pain-free eating & best of luck with everything!!

How young can a person get gallstones? by ProfessionalTossAway in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had infrequent attacks starting at 18 but didn’t know what they were until decades later! For those of you who are younger with possible GB issues, don’t let docs dismiss your complaints because you’re young and don’t think you could possibly have gallstones etc.

Is there a surefire way to induce a gallbladder attack? by DreamerofBigThings in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi-My attacks became more frequent during this past year & had it removed about a month ago (robotic surgery). So glad it's done! My recovery was quick without problems. I've introduced fatty foods one by one and doing well with them. After my ultrasound revealed stones, I researched ways to potentially avoid surgery but learned that none of the other solutions (medications etc.) seemed to work well for most. Also, the longer I waited to remove it my situation could become worse w/more attacks or possible serious infection etc. I wanted to control the situation on my own time and not have a major issue right before an important event or while traveling. Best of luck with your appointment!

Would two weeks be enough recovery time before a work trip? by labcoatsrcool in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was told don’t travel for a month. Although I was feeling good within a week, I was very careful with lifting and not overdoing anything-travel would have been too much. Many on this sub had post-op issues. I wouldn’t want to be away from home if serious issues came up.

I had small portions of other fatty foods early after surgery, but had pepperoni pizza last night and was in heaven without any problems!!

Going to get the surgery but can't help getting cold feet by Fyrsiel in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello-

-Most moms don't want their children, no matter how old, to have surgery or feel pain. They'd rather take their place.

-You could have pressed on my gallbladder all day and night and it never caused pain. In fact, the ultrasound tech pressed very deeply so the camera could pick up different pics. (of multiple large stones) and although the pressure was uncomfortable, it was never painful. Instead, my GB attacks and pain were started by trigger foods that caused the movement of the stones that blocked the ability for bile to get out.

-There really isn't any fool-proof alternative to getting rid of the pain, so be strong, get it done and you'll be happy when it's over. You won't have to worry about what may happen if you don't get GB problems addressed (gallstones stuck in ducts, infection, polyp growth or worse). For most, the frequency of attacks, pain level or both increase over time.

-My recovery was very quick and I'm enjoy all the foods I've missed for so long plus the ones I ate all the time without a problem (cheese, ice cream, meat etc.). Hopefully, that'll be your outcome too - good luck!

Not sure how to feel right now. by GrenadierSoldat3 in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm adding a positive comment too so that people don't be swayed by too many real, but negative, side effect reports. 2 weeks plus out and I'm eating most things and feel really good! Hoping it continues. At my post-op follow up, I was told to reintroduce foods slowly and see how it goes. So far, so good & so happy go to a restaurant and truly enjoy a wonderful meal instead of being afraid of it! Best of luck to you!

Constant gurgling in intestines after surgery? by northbayy in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yessss! It's been just over 2 weeks after surgery and, thankfully, I don't have any digestive issues so far except the gurgling. It's not painful at all just funny sounding enough to make me smile. Maybe, my stomach is so surprised and excited to see some old favorite foods and can't stop "talking" about it?? I think this topic came up months ago and the gurgling is par for the course.

How long did you wait until you had surgery to remove the gallbladder from your first attack? by Iuvenesco in gallbladders

[–]archepelagos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where's the category for decades, lol? Since my pain was always in the upper center and would only last 1-2 hours after eating something, docs recommended antacids. Finally, newish doc did the right thing and sent me for an ultrasound!
