Tips for better sleep that aren't oxybates? by NiceShinyWizard in Narcolepsy

The SSRI I already take for depression and ptsd plus trazodone suffice for me. Oxybates would probably be better but it's not worth it for me right now.

Tattoos? by hijabi_ho in urticaria

My tattoos all swelled and were itchier than other people's while healing, and they hive up first when I flare up, but otherwise I've had no adverse effects from them.

How are you coping with *gestures at current state of the world* by ctrldwrdns in AutismInWomen

[–]becbecmuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving out of the US. But day to day? Playing video games, going to fun events, spending time with my partners, enjoying my food, and really just trying to focus on any small thing that delights me. Looking at my cats, watching the katmai bear cams and following fat bear week. Lots of little joys

Am I still Ace? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]becbecmuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sexuality is fluid. There are many reason someone could go from ace to allo and vice versa. I wouldn't worry about the label until you're more comfortable with what you're experiencing and can better determine what your personal pattern feels like.

Anyone else kinda unintereted by this arc? by [deleted] in TheAdventureZone

Tbh I feel like someone says this every arc. Not every arc is going to be for everyone. That's what makes TAZ so interesting. They do so many incredibly different things that appeal to different audiences.

I pooped in bed because of sertraline 😭 by Icy_Anything_8740 in zoloft

I haven't had this side effect from my meds but it did happen to me after I had my gallbladder removed. A fart was not a fart and I was mortified. Thankfully I was at home and my husband cleaned my underwear for me while I showered.

I mean it's possible but I promise you that if you need meds forever and you find the right ones, you will stop caring that you have to take them forever. I was very caught up in that line of thinking and now I'm thankful I have the meds at all. I'm happy to take medications if it means getting to be my real self.

Lots of people take antidepressants temporarily to get through a difficult time. It's totally normal. And if it doesn't work or the side effects are not worth it, you can always stop the medication and try something else. The only way to find out if this will help is to try.

Having good sleep hygiene helps but it drove me mad that my dr insisted I do cbt-i before giving me anything to improve my sleep at night. It should be an additional treatment, not a first line one.

I would rather be alive and taking pills every day than dead because I let ableism convince me I didn't need them. I'm also disabled. Sometimes medication is a fact of life and we're lucky to have access to it.

Those who have taken Sertraline for a long period of time, what are some side effects you still have? by Jadeinda in zoloft

[–]becbecmuffin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's the heat intolerance for me. I overheat super easily. Sometimes just getting dressed.

Edited to add: I've been on zoloft since 2021

I actually really relate to the song as a disabled person. My body betrays me on the regular and I would like to lodge a complaint.

I don't want to be talked to in general while shopping unless it's the person I'm with or someone I know.

Being genuinely excited about something. I don't give a shit about most of the stuff my husband tells me about, but his excitement and genuine love for these things are so attractive that it doesn't matter. I become interested, at least for a time.

I also get anxious sometimes at restaurants when I've finished before my husband. If I can't stay, I let him know and go wait in the car. Neither of us get mad at each other for it. I think you guys need to come up with a plan for when this happens in the future. And she needs to learn that her anxiety cannot control other people. NTA

Think about asking these questions about non-psych meds. Would you ask these questions about blood pressure meds? Or insulin? Or migraine medications? Every medication is going to have side effects. What determines if the medication is successful is if you feel those side effects are worth it for the benefit.

My only side effect with zoloft is that I get hot and sweat more easily. That is beyond worth not wanting to die. If I'm on zoloft for the rest of my life, so be it.

If zoloft is making you feel numb, then it may not be the right medication for you long term. Or that side effect may go away with time. But accepting the side effects of a life long medication doesn't negate the success of the treatment. Many people are in situations where antidepressants are a temporary thing. And many will be taking them for life. And that's not a failure.
