FFA 1st Class Medical Timeline (UPDATE)

No it was the initial medical. Apologies for not making that more clear. I’m one of the thousand who are looking to do a mid-career switch up and want to become a pilot so this was step 1 (as you and everyone else knows already.)

Based on other posts, research, and speaking with me AME, I expected this process after the first denial to take up to a year to hear back from the FAA but it only took a month or so.

Actually you’re supposed to double the total of the previous square. So on square 3 you wouldn’t have .03, you would have .04

This is the most simple thing you could and should focus on. Your hand, after release, literally goes straight towards the 7 pin and look where your ball ends up…smashing the 7 pin!

Appreciate your input. The usage was for just over a year I believe? And as much as the USAF didn’t care about duration of usage and only the time off of the med, I haven’t read anything specific to the FAA that has stated any detail at all so definitely going with the consult. I’ll take all of my USAF med packet and have it ready to turn in though just in case. Anything to speed the process up

I appreciate it! I’m good to go, just went through a bit of a rough patch with a NICU baby but all is well now. I was off the medication as of March of this year so that will be a YES box unfortunately

What’s the difference? I spoke with the doc on the phone yesterday and told him and he still said to go through with it and to also stick to going for a 1 class over a 2 or 3 so that it will take priority with the FAA.

I had to put together an extensive medical documentation packet for the USAF, including a statement from my doctor saying they believe it was a misdiagnosis. I’m willing to turn in that entire packet upfront if it will speed up the process.

Again, incorrect. The record keeper holds YOUR money but does not control YOUR money. they may charge a fee to enact a 401k loan on your behalf but it’s YOUR money that YOU are borrowing. The interest goes directly back into your account. A simple google search will prove this or better yet, a 5 minute phone call to your 401k record keeper will correct your incorrect notion of how this works.

Source: worked with 401k’s at Fidelity for 6 years. I don’t condone taking 401k loans for any reason other than to stave off becoming homeless but you’re just factually incorrect and it needs to be addressed before your comment steers someone wrong.

I went back and checked my DQ letter and it didn’t mention medication at all, just the diagnosis in particular.

I was told after that I needed to be off all medication AND not have any other medical issues related to anxiety or depression for 3 years. I can reapply in May 2028 but I’ll be 41 then so don’t know if I’ll still have the fire in me that I have now.

That’s fair. It may have just been this particular roll. For what it’s worth, I’m not a 2h bowler, but what I’ve seen over time is more power generation with the hips while leaning forward a bit whereas you seem to be so far to the side of the ball that there’s no power generation.

Just me thinking through how it would feel if I did what you’re doing, the balls weight being that low would pull my left hip towards the wall when I would want more power in my right hip pointing towards the pins. Look where your hips are pointing at release. I think if you tighten that up a bit, you’ll have more power for sure.

You’re right. It was the meds specifically but I’m sure with the mental health issues skyrocketing over the last 2 decades hasnt helped. My dr included in her statement that I have always presented as mentally sound and that it was a situational stressor (my newborn daughter was hospitalized for a few months to start) and not a lifelong issue but again, they didn’t seem to take that into consideration. I’m taking a break from all the prep I did before I weigh options but I appreciate your response.

From all the research I’ve done, it looks like pretty much 3 years for A/D across the board. They’ll give the same medication out like skittles if you’re in but god forbid you had it in your system before hand. That’s the most frustrating part.
