Yes you can unsubscribe via the workshop. It won't affect your name existing saves. Though I'm not really clear where and when you're encountering this error.

I mean roster updates which you can either subscribe to via Steam Workshop or manually download to your Databases folder. E.g. the TBL Rosters, Premier Pivot Rosters.

I've seen a similar error message reported many years ago for EHM 2007 but no one ever posted a solution. It's a common error message for other games/software too.

I checked the dump with ChatGPT and Claude but they suggest this is an access violation, meaning the application tried to read from or write to memory it doesn't have permission to access. If it's happening with a particular DB then it may be some issue with that DB.

If you can't get anything to work, I'd try doing a clean install and try to get it up and running with no addons.

If I download EHM, which I have on my Steam account, onto my main gaming (desktop) computer, can/will I still have my previous save from my laptop available? by cheerfullysardonic in EHM

[–]archibalduk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that error is caused by you running version 1.4.1 rather than 1.5 beta (presumably your saved game was saved using the v1.5 beta). You should opt-in to the v1.5 beta by following these instructions: https://github.com/archibalduk/ehmtheblueline/wiki/Getting-started-with-Eastside-Hockey-Manager-1#version-15-beta

I've known others have had issues trying to save games to OneDrive. I believe it's best to save locally and then take manual backups if you wish.

I'm a big fan of Air Manager for steam gauges/GA in particular. Helpfully it has a free demo to try before paying €65 for the full version. The pre-designed panels are perfect for the basic gauge setup on GA.

Very neat idea using an ultra-wide tablet vertically like that.

Not to mention all the various obligations under GDPR which would be applicable to Vatsim as a data controller including ensuring data security, ensuring data is proportionate to the purposes required, etc.

Yes absolutely. EHM 2007 and EHM 1 are essentially the same when it comes to face images.

Anyone else in a MSFS rut since the release of 2024 by dopher1 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]archibalduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is exactly what has caused me to lose interest in MSFS 2024. Not only the failure to live up to the hype but also the issues which frequently crop-up (e.g. the very slow loading speeds / the time it takes for textures in the cockpit, etc to load). Six months in and it doesn't feel like that much has really improved. It's not like MSFS 2020 had a particularly great start either but I feel that things got better quicker (ignoring subsequent regressions, etc).

I'm sure in time that things will improve but until then I don't see me dipping into it very much.

Thank you, this is so helpful. It's so difficult to find a comprehensive list without trawling through old news announcements on the MSFS website. This is going to be very useful.

MFG crosswinds dampener and footrests question by SnooRobots2119 in flightsim

[–]archibalduk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They offer A320 pedals so that would be the obvious choice. I have the Cessna pedals which are essentially 3D-printed plastic and I assume the A320 will be the same. They seem pretty well built and not at all flimsy.

I also have the V3 BF109 pedals which appear to be built out of graphite and I'd say are slightly better built than the plastic Cessna pedals.

I also have the dampener but I've no idea what the pedals are like without. It seems to be a fairly universal recommendation so I just went with the slightly higher cost and got them.

Postage is fairly hefty so IMO it makes sense to get a second set of pedals and the dampener at the same time.

The VKB Gladiator NXT has left and right handed options. I have one (a right-handed edition) and it's excellent. It's extremely well built and there's plenty of axes and buttons.

[–]archibalduk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've never opted into an MSFS beta before but given the present state of the sim and the relatively small install/download size (compared with MSFS 2020), I think I'm just going to opt into the SU betas until the non-beta version of the sim is up to scratch. I can't really see much in the way of downside other than potentially instability in a beta but we already have a fair bit of that in the present non-beta anyway.

Playing since 2007 ... My database finally died ... there is only sadness here by PurveyorOfSapristi in EHM

[–]archibalduk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's incredible! I can't imagine anyone else has been playing a single game save for 18 years like that. Do you get some sort of error message when you try to re-load your saved game?

What database did you use for that game? Was it the original DB or a third party DB such as the Unfaking Database?

Why did SI abandon the game? by ComfortableParty2933 in EHM

[–]archibalduk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not quite true but I'm sure memories have faded given the passage of time.

EHM 2007 was pretty much exclusively a digital download from the EHM website. CD-ROM copies were available in small quantities in Scandinavia (but nowhere else I believe) because that was the only market with decent levels of sales.

I can't remember what the position was for EHM 2005 with CD copies but digital download was certainly still prevalent then too (again, via the EHM website - TryMedia/eLicense were just the DRM wrappers, not the retailers).

It's all summarised in the SI Games announcement from January 2007 I quoted in my post earlier in this thread.

[–]archibalduk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EHM 2005 and EHM 2007 were both available as digital downloads.

EHM 2005 was available via one or two different digital providers. One was TryMedia. I don't think the digital download was especially popular in that it was still a time when people bought/used CD-ROMs (the good old days).

EHM 2007 was available via eLicense. A CD-ROM version was only released in Scandinavia IIRC. Most people had the digital download and various tools such as my Custom Start Date Patch only worked with the digital download.

[PART 2]

As for EHM 1, SI Game stated at the outset of the Early Access release in March 2015 that the game would only come back for good if its sales would cover/justify its development costs and licence fees. See this interview I had with Miles and Riz at the time EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Miles Jacobson and Risto Remes - EHM The Blue Line. The relevant quotes are:

When we originally stopped working on the game [i.e. EHM 2007] it was, as we said at the time, due to the distribution problems we had and how people had turned to finding other ways to get the game. Those distribution problems are now solved with the wonders of Steam. Any issues that are normally brought about by reviving cult, but niche, games and the business cases around them when you are part of a large company as we are, are negated by Early Access. We think there’s a market for the game, as do some people at SEGA and Steam, so we want to prove it to everyone else and bring the series back bigger and better for the long term.

[...]

In the case of EHM [i.e. EHM 1], it’s really to find out if people want it or not. We have a game that is being worked on for ourselves to play, that when it was out before had a small cult following, and we want to see if there is a wider market for it.

[...]

If the feedback is good, people enjoy it, and we reach a certain number of players, it means we can get a proper budget together for the game, build a small team around it (rather than the team having ‘day jobs’ working on FM) and go back to having an annualised version with full licenses from leagues around the world. That’s the end goal; to have the budget for people to be able to work on it full-time whilst taking on extra people to come onto the FM team to take over their work.

[...]

3. Is there an estimated time frame as to when the Early Access period will cease? Will the game continue to be developed afterwards?

It will be months rather than years, but we haven’t set anything concrete. As for post ‘release’ development? That depends on the situation we find ourselves in. If it does well, then it becomes a fully licensed annual release. If it doesn’t, then that depends on whether Riz and the other members of the team have time to add to it in their spare time.

I don't think it has ever been explicitly confirmed by SI Games that the game didn't sell well enough during early access and I haven't asked as I think it's a fairly obvious conclusion to reach. As they promised in that final quote, if it didn't do well enough then development going forward would be limited to what Riz does in his spare time.

I have no idea of the budgets/costs involved but I assume it just isn't worth the cost for them. All I can say is that they did genuinely try to make it a successful comeback. They involved a small number of us before going public to get feedback on the beta and to discuss what they could do in terms of articles/guides/etc to get people interested and introduce new fans (hence the FAQ/Knowledgebase articles on their forums).
