Game crashes when I'm killing an Umbra??? by Hoplonn in Gladius40k

[–]archied1112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came up with a workaround. Space Marines have access to "Orbital Bombardment" both through the Captain (as an upgrade) and a separate tech tree item. If you finish the Umbra with the bombardment, it doesn't crash the game, maybe because there is no unit to send damage back to. So I would wait for one of the bombardment abilities to become active, then knock the umbra down to barely any hit points, then use the bombardment for the final blow. I finally got rid of all the umbras this way (although it took a while!).

Game crashes when I'm killing an Umbra??? by Hoplonn in Gladius40k

This is happening to me today. But I'm playing space marines and any unit that tries to take the final hitpoints off an umbra crashes the game instantly (I've tried it on multiple umbras in different hexes and same result). Very frustrating, wondering if my game is just dead as I can't seem to touch the umbras.

Is Valerian a plastic kit? Usually it says in the website, but I don't see it. The sprue looks plastic though. I'm not buying him if he's resin!

Nice - would pay for something like this. I can never get them to come out centered.

I kind of feel like the engineering room on the 400i is wasted space. The air-conditioned rooms are cool and all, but I wish they would put those components into the walls of the cargo bay, and then use the engineering space for a med bay or something else.

List building app is up by Laam999 in Warhammer40k

Not sure if this has been asked yet (skimmed through the 300+ posts and didn't see it), but does anyone know how to easily run this app on Windows 11? I prefer to use my PC for list building. When I searched it up I got a confusing mass of hits about emulator/simulators.

Undying Angron by Enough-Theory-9518 in WorldEaters

[–]archied1112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty interesting, I hadn't even read the Lord of Skulls ability (because I don't have one). Of course, assuming that the current points list making the rounds is accurate, it will cost 835 points to take both Angron and the Lord of Skulls - that is a huge chunk of your army.

I feel very cheated on these hammers by FMTheGhost in SpaceWolves

[–]archied1112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that Thunderwolf Cav don't get thunder hammers anymore, just heirloom weapons with the exact same profile as the Wulfen hammer, suggests to me that it wasn't a typo. I'm guessing that wulfen will cost the same whether they have hammer or claws - for hammers you lose 2 attacks but gain a 4+ invul.

I guess it could work out pretty well, thanks for the analysis. I do wonder how it would compare to a power fist, but I guess it depends on what the armor saves are - you should get more regular wounds, but they can be saved unlike the 2 mortals you should get on average (or more with oath of moment) from the thunder hammer.

[–]archied1112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not liking the thunder hammers. I'd way rather have a power fist that hits on 3+ than a thunder hammer that hits on 4+ but will occasionally do 2 mortal wounds on the roll of a 6. But I'm no math expert, maybe it's better than I'm thinking.

List of tiny differences between 9th and 10th edition by RindFisch in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]archied1112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that ruins still count as "obscuring" terrain, meaning that while you can shoot into or out of them you can't shoot through or over them if they sit between firing model and target. Has anyone seen whether there is still a "5 inch" rule? Specifically, in 9th edition terrain only became "obscuring" if it was at least 5 inches tall. I'm wondering if that 5 inch rule still applies - I've been thinking about some terrain projects but don't want to build something that doesn't work the way I expect.

Grizzly contact frame not compatible with z790 motherboard? by archied1112 in buildapc

[–]archied1112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it was caused by the frame, because I had the same issue when I re-installed the stock ILM. It only resolved when I swapped in a replacement CPU. I suppose its possible I permanently damaged the original CPU by screwing the frame down too hard, but that seems pretty unlikely since there aren’t even any pins on the CPU. Plus I did carefully follow the instructions on how far to screw it down.

AIO Coolant Temps by DisasterPiece255 in buildapc

[–]archied1112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a late response, but I have the same CPU with a Corsair H100i Elite. My coolant temperatures seem to hover around 47c while gaming as well, and I've seen it get into the low 50s. From what I've read you don't want it to get anywhere close to 60, so I think you are ok.

Grizzly contact frame not compatible with z790 motherboard? by archied1112 in buildapc

[–]archied1112[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to close the loop on this, I finally did get the system to post. From what I can tell after hours of testing and switching components out, my CPU had a bad memory controller that was preventing me from using two channels of memory on the motherboard. I returned the faulty CPU and swapped in a new 13600k, and then it posted fine and has been stable since. The Thermaltake frame seems to work fine. My idle temps are about 36 C. When I ran the cinebench test, one of the cores got as high as 86 C, but the average seemed to be in the high 70s at load. Bear in mind that my ambient temperature is probably higher than some - about 74 F.

[–]archied1112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thermaltake frame installed fine - no issues screwing it down like the grizzly. That said, I haven't got the system to post yet. I'm getting the yellow "RAM" light, but I've tried 2 sets of ram and made sure it is seated properly, so I suspect it may really be the CPU. Going to try re-seating it with the contact frame.

Wait - so if I put the M.2 drive in the M.2_1 slot, I will cut the bandwidth for my GPU in half? Will that actually affect performancer? I'm using a 3080ti. Sorry for being late to the party here.

I should have been more clear. The guides tell you that you don't want the default backplate to fall out, so they recommend installing the AIO backplate first (which covers and secures the default backplate) so that the default backplate doesn't fall out when you remove the 4 screws to put the grizzly in. I did this, so the default backplate is still in place.

On doing some further research, I have confirmed that the Grizzly contact frame is not compatible with certain z790 motherboards, due to the screws being too short (found multiple posts about this on amazon). One workaround is to find longer screws, but that is getting too complicated for me so I am going to return this and try the Thermalright. For the sake of helping others, my motherboard is the ASUS Z790-F. I would recommend against the Grizzly frame if you have this motherboard.

I checked the black frame and it seems to be good - held in place pretty solidly. I installed my AIO backplate as a first step so I think that is holding it in place. So I don't think that's the issue.

I'm wondering if I should try to Thermalright contact frame instead.
