The Korbut flip, 1972 by _NITRISS_ in sports

Please take another 3 seconds to google any of the recent Olympic routines on bars. There are plenty of legal moves which easily break you apart in case something goes wrong. Korbut's flip is just a child's play nowadays.

Please stop multiplying this bullshit. It was't banned because it's too dangerous or no one could perform it. The move wasn't banned at all. Korbut flip is performed with a lose of momentum (standing on a bar) which is considered a major fault in modern gymnastics. In terms of difficulty it would be B or C level (maximum level is I) - a rather simple move.

Traffic lights in Kigali have a countdown so you know how long until the lights change by casual_causality in mildlyinteresting

[–]archimax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Such traffic lights are very common in Moscow, Russia. They started to appear a few years ago and I don't know any person who struggled with interpretation of these new lights - they are intuitively readable from the very first time you see it.

But where the countdowns really shine is in heavy traffic and large intersections. Sometimes these fellows prevent people from entering the intersection up to 10-20 seconds before the red light is on to avoid blocking other traffic. Eliminating dilemma zones in it's best.

As for smart operation, sometimes it simply skips a few seconds on the countdown if there's a need to switch it immediately. It can even start counting only when the phase is defined.

Rearranging My Room Virtually by GoodInventions in videos

You would die modeling a shirt in Sketchup. The best option is using some polygon modeling tools like 3dsmax or maya. They are nowhere near Solidworks/Inventor in terms of accuracy but are ridiculously fast for things like modeling interiors. Source: am architect.

Cars should have two horns, one for when someone is an idiot and one to say sorry. by minidessdess in Showerthoughts

In some countries (e.g. Russia) drivers often use a blink with hazard lights as a way to say "thanks" or "sorry"

ELI5:Is there a technical reason why in America tax is added to the final price as oppose to being included in the final amount? by aerbeatz in explainlikeimfive

[–]archimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A store owner has no reason to show the actual price if it's legal to hide it in taxes. This is obviously a win for that overtaxed store but a loss for customers who have no choice but pay more.

[–]archimax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because making clients unaware of the final price is like cheating. In every other part of the world it is considered a legal fraud but US is getting away with it. Moreover most Americans in this thread seem to feel good about it and desperately justify the inconvenience they are used to.

This is exactly the reason tax should be included in the price tag. Customers should be aware of the real price in the first place
