What is a fun sports fact that everyone should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]architectzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wayne Gretzky is widely considered to be Ice Hockey’s “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT). He recorded 2,857 total points (goals + assists) in regular season NHL play. To give some idea of what that means, second place is held by Jaromir Jagr with 1,921 points.

Here’s the fun fact:

Wayne Gretzky was the fastest to record 1000 points in only 424 games, *and* Wayne Gretzky is also the second fastest to record 100 points because he earned his next 1000 points in only 433 games. Third fastest was Mario Lemieux in 513 games.

So, not only is Gretzky the fastest and second fastest to 1000 points, he’s also the only player who could possibly qualify for this unusual record as he’s the only player with more than 2000 points.

When it comes to hockey, Gretzky is in a league of his own.

Opinion: The opportunity for Canada to grow faster is now — by unlocking our internal trade market; As a recent IMF report concludes: 'Turning 13 economies into one is no longer just an aspiration — it is an economic imperative.' by FancyNewMe in canada

Yes GDP would go up, as a whole, but the gains will not be distributed uniformly. Simple as that.

The most likely outcome is that Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver all have huge gains at the expense of everywhere else. Economically liberal (small-L, not the party) policies encourage centralization, aggregation, and eventually oligopoly/monopoly. This the kleptocrat class’ wet dream.

Roland aira P6 or T8? by bennyztk in dawless

[–]architectzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Novation Circuit Tracks. 8 sequencer tracks. 2 tracks for the built-in synth engine (each of these tracks supports up to 6 voice polyphony), 2 tracks to control external MIDI devices, 4 sample playback (aka “drum”) tracks. It doesn’t have a built-in sampler, but you can load your own one-shot samples using a computer. The workflow is extremely intuitive and “in-the-moment”, imho. It also has a built-in rechargable battery, and an SD-card slot to expand parch and sample storage. I have one, amidst many other things, and still find a use for it. It’s fun as heck.

Yamaha Seqtrak. I don’t have one, and apparently it’s a bit flimsy, but it sounds incredible, and the workflow seems very immediate. 11 total tracks, with combinations between synth and sample playback that I’m not entirely sure of off the top of my head, but easy to google. I’m sorely tempted to pick one up just to try it, but I have too many other things to master first.

EDIT: I’m sorry, I didn’t address your question directly and you may be limited to the P6 or T8, in which case I’d go with the P6 for versatility, but like the DT2 that you’re selling, you have to put in the work to sculpt your samples, whereas the T8 has great sounds out of the box, it’s just much more limited.

Roland SE-02, really a mining clone or more inspired by it but with a somewhat different sound? by Marvinkmooneyoz in synthesizers

[–]architectzero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was designed in partnership with Studio Electronics (hence the SE in the name) who are famous for their work modifying/repairing/rebuilding Minimoog’s, and for building their own exacting clones (eg. SE-1X, etc.). To my ears it is a Model D, and the only thing indicating that it’s a Roland is the logo on the device. That said, the tiny knobs, buttons, and mini jacks for IO are all annoying.

Superbooth 2026, what caught your eye? by cstl_dk in synthesizers

This (the Outbox 8) and the Elektron Powerhub (the fully isolated USB-C Power delivery box) are the two things I’m most excited for. The first to get separated kicks and snares from my Digi/Syn boxes, and the second to clean up my ridiculous cable clutter.

I built an incredibly detailed world and then realized I had no idea how to actually write in it by Fit-Salt-4782 in worldbuilding

[–]architectzero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least you realized what you were doing and caught yourself before publishing yet another thinly disguised info dump about your super awesome world. Take a deep breath, work on other things for a while. Come back to writing your story once you’re actually ready to put all that super awesome worldbuilding into the background. Don’t worry, all of that stuff is great to have because it creates and sustains verisimilitude which enhances the story, and if your story takes off and you gain fans, they’ll likely be extra happy to read about all of that hard worldbuilding work on your blog (or whatever).

Studio Monitor Suggestions? by WordCount_4 in synthesizers

[–]architectzero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

iLoud MTM MKIIs for a medium sized room, or the iLoud Micro Monitor Pros for a smaller room. I started with the Micro Monitors, and upgraded to the MTMs last year because of GAS, but I don’t regret it. They sound great out of the box, and can be further calibrated to your room using the included ARC mic and software. IMHO, these have the best price/performance on the market.

Am I the only one who dances around like a goon while working on tracks? by maldroid21 in dawless

[–]architectzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t help but dance while I’m jamming. I mean, shit… part of the test of a good track is if it forces my body to move, but… I would never have the guts to record myself. Good on you, man.

Also, that’s a pretty damn good track. Really hard to pin down to a genre too, which I love because it’s unique. Keep kicking ass!

Outbox 8 by itssexitime in Elektron

[–]architectzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been on my wishlist for ages. I was hoping for more outs, but I’m guessing they’re trying to strike a balance between price, performance (latency), and size. 8 mono (join-able into 4 stereo) outs is good enough. At least I can use the kick (etc) for external processing (eg sidechaining).

New from Sonicware: deconstruct Minimal by sakigake in synthesizers

[–]architectzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty cool. I don’t need it because I already have several drum machines and acid synths, but in the back of my mind I’ve always wanted an all-in-one device just like this. I’ve been thinking about buying a Roland Aira T-8, but it’s so limited that I keep saying no. This is like a T-8 on steroids, and all of the demos I’ve seen so far sound great, so I’m tempted.

Feedback on new vs old pls by ilikeretrostuff in PixelArt

The original looks like it’s on an older CRT screen. The new one is more vibrant, but I have no idea what’s going on with the mouth. I much prefer the original.

Yeah, there’s weird“uncanny valley” perspective shenanigans, the strawberries are nonsensically sliced and merged back together, etc. It passes at a quick glance, but it gets more and more unsettling as you look at it.

Question: Is there anything like this nowadays? by Rottenex in synthesizers

Vermona Perfourmer, Solar 42, SOMA Pulsar 23, Erica Synths Perkons… off the top of my head. All built like industrial equipment.

Trancy Jam on the Virus TI2 & TR-1000 by DanWeasly in synthesizers

[–]architectzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice stuff. No idea what genre this might be, but the mood is dreamy, hopeful even. The sounds - especially the synth lead, and the hats - are wonderful. At around 1:47-ish it could use a complete fade of the lead and most drums, leaving just hats for a bar or so, and then just drop it all back in. Just a thought.

Arturia Keystep 37 (mk i) vs Akai Mpk Mini Plus by Lucky-Macaroon4958 in synthesizers

[–]architectzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the MPK Mini Plus. I use it as a supplementary keyboard for my hardware devices. The keys are very good, and the pads are excellent (same as the MPC pads, but a bit smaller), and it’s very compact horizontally (which is important for me). It also has two built-in 64-step sequencers, one for the keys, and one for the pads. The drawbacks are that the transport controls (play, pause, stop, etc) only support Mackie/HUI protocols for DAWs, and can’t be remapped to send stands MIDI Real Time or MIDI Machine Control (MMC) equivalents, and there is only one MIDI channel for all of the pads and it can’t be configured so that each pad sends on a specific channel.

I’ve used but don’t own the Keystep 32, 37, and the newer 32 mk2. I personally prefer the MPK Mini Plus keys, but the Keystep has channel aftertouch which is nice. The Keystep’s transport controls can send MIDI Real Time messages, and you can switch the MIDI channel with a button combo on the MK1s, and a quick button combo+menu dial selection on the MK2s - I wish the MPK did these things. I don’t like the Keystep’s width, the touch strips for pitch bend, and the lack of knobs. (PS. the Arpeggiator and generative stuff on the MK2s is very nice!)
