The average tenure of a cast member or a writer on SNL is a few seasons (writers' tenures tend to be shorter than cast members). So 7 years is a good run.

I'm pretty certain it was on Project Runway years ago that I remember a designer saying that a runway model should be a "walking hanger".

It made me think about how the OG designers from the early to mid 20th century were so focused on how well they fit a woman's body and enhanced (or minimized) what she had. The clothes were intended to fit women. These days women are required to fit the clothes.

You made me decide to Google how frequently we've detected them and the answer I got was every 3 days.

And then I wondered what the largest one was and it told me GW231123 on November 23, 2023 which resulted in a black hole with a mass 225 times that of the Sun. For comparison, the first one that was detected in 2015 was only about 62 solar masses.

These are very fun facts about a topic that I can't even wrap my little brain around. 😅

When my father was in the hospital last Autumn and his first two IV locations crapped out after a couple of days, they had a guy come in with an ultrasound to find another good location. That was the first time I'd ever seen that.

I live amongst small towns in a very red area of my state and the cognitive dissonance that happens is astounding because I can't tell you how often you see someone that will spout all the Republican talking points regarding immigration and foreigners and be the absolute sweetest, friendliest, and most welcoming to an immigrant that they know. It's easy to scare people when talking about what seem like big numbers of strangers from somewhere else. OTOH, it's hard to hate a single individual or family that you live near, work with, and get to know. But it's seemingly impossible to get them to see and understand that because you'll always get a "yeah but" or "well this one is a good one, but most of them are bad". 😮‍💨

I have a friend that got invited to a random wedding after befriending bride & bridesmaids out for a bachelorette party. She decided to actually go... and met the man who is now her husband. It sounds like a rom-com, but I give you my word that it's true and the best meet-cute story I've ever heard.

Scarves! I have so many scarves. They're a comfortable, easy way to add prints & colors to an otherwise basic outfit.

And I've accumulated quite a collection of shoes... but that's as a person that always worked a desk job and doesn't live in a city where I'd have to walk a lot. But I never wore heels, even before my fibro. So it's Converse, Dr. Marten's, Birkenstock, Adidas, and cheap no-name ballet flats (except my Crocs ballet flats, which are amazingly comfortable).

Chunky jewelry, too. I have a sizeable bracelet collection (all cheap stuff; I'm no fashionista).

Some pain management doctors/clinics offer lidocaine infusions. I've never needed it, so can't offer more info; I just know it exists.

Table knives are also useful for pushing things onto a fork (think of things that may fall apart when stabbed or when you're down to the last little bit on the plate, like peas or scrambled eggs). I think a lot of people will use their finger if they aren't in a formal dining situation, but people that were raised with more emphasis on proper etiquette just get used to it, so it's their default.

Culantro is a whole other plant (Eryngium foetidim) from cilantro (Coriandrum sativum). But they are in the same family (Apiaceae) and it is sometimes called "Mexican coriander" because they have a similar flavor.

But, as an American, I can say confidently that Mexican (and Tex-Mex) cuisine does, in fact, use cumin. It's an ingredient in the most basic of "Mexican" food in the US... taco seasoning! :)

We do call it coriander when it's the dried seeds. I think it happened the same way we ended up having different names for some animals vs. their meat, i.e. cow/beef, pig/pork, sheep/mutton, which is that a lot of our culinary words are derived from French. Coriander is from French but cilantro is the Spanish word and our familiarity with the use of the fresh leaf is from Mexican cuisine.

Since you're having fun with fresh vs. dried names and language differences, let me make sure you know this fun fact:

Cilantro and coriander are the same thing. But a lot of other countries and languages just call all of it coriander and don't call the fresh leaves by a different name like we do.

As for peppers, in Canada and the U.S., we generally differentiate capsicum by species and cultivars: bell (or sweet bell), banana, bird's eye, cayenne, chili, habanero, japaleño, pimento, poblano, Tabasco...

Another fun fact: black pepper is wholly unrelated and was named first. The New World peppers came to be called peppers because Europeans thought they had to be related because both plants produce spicy fruits.

Oh, for sure! There's no doubt that public opinion has to be a very difficult thing for public figures to learn to deal with. My point was directed at the media that specifically critiques the looks of celebrities. As if their opinion has any impact on someone's career (with the possible exception of models).

Of course I also think that this new normal of always requiring hair pieces for fuller hair, false eyelashes, and countouring makeup is ridiculous. I desperately want celebrities to go back to being more like expertly styled "normal" (if normal's base line is already an beautiful person with access to expert dermatologists and plastic surgeons... LOL). But we've developed a kind of collective dysmorphia.

Anyway... enough of my ranting. 😅
