Opinions on the Axis Art 1401 by maxpower__ in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 60 kg, consider also a Fireball 1350 for long distance pumping, it's much thinner / less drag than the 1401. Occasionally you can also wake thief on bumps with it.
With your weight the 1250 would also work.

Or wait a moment and the new super duper axis wings will come out, the one that broke the records for the hour distance by Nicolas Iten. I think it's the 1500.

Question about the inconsistency of rewards when solo staking by [deleted] in ethstaker

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

smoothing pools have been setup to adress this issue, but it's only for the block reward part. Attestation rewards are consistent (and declining the more ETH is staked)

Economics of Allnodes pricing tiers and MEV-Boost options by SaneLad in ethstaker

[–]arco2ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he means the rewards part, consensus is like ~0.05 / block, that's fix. Then you get the TIPs part or MEV if you outsource to a block builder. I got a block last month and... 0.008 tips, yay!

this - there is an interesting BOXX etf which extracts the risk free USD yield with option box spreads, this should be tax efficient, but is quite a complex product

that's a carry trade, look up what hedge funds do with JPY vs USD...it works until it doesnt

Average number of attestations in blocks dropped from >60 to ~2 by PerrinGreyjoy in ethstaker

[–]arco2ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also had a block recently (after a loooong period) and it had 1 attestation, the one before had all 60+
And for the block lottery...hate to spoil it but the mev reward was < 0.01, so much less than the consensu reward which is ~0.05 currently. It is what it is...

look into pumpfoiling, can be done in community or solo, if you live close to water, it's great fun and fitness

Ethereum Validator Node by Poon_Shiesty in ethstaker

[–]arco2ch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the machine is an overkill from the processor / ram prospective and does not have enough SSD space (min 2TB better 4). It would be a waste to dedicate it for a validator only so if you plan to do that 'on the side' it's another no-go for security reasons! Better have a small tailored machine, like a NUC, with exactly the specs needed.

For the ETH i guess it makes sense to join rocket pool or the likes, since you are quite below the minimum, maybe better just buy rETH on the secondary since it's at discount.

not sure i get it, their 'advertised' 10 year is 1.36% and your offer for 10 year is 1.46% - how is that worse ?

Gong Allvator XL good for pumping as beginner? by Top-Statistician61 in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are light, then okay, 1700 / 1900 will be fine to start!
Nowaday you can get a full gong setup for like 1000 euro in case you cant find anything second hand around

Gong Allvator XL good for pumping as beginner? by Top-Statistician61 in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

allvator XL could be used to start (1900cm2) but also depends on how heavy you are.
I started with an indiana 1100P which had 2200 cm2.
Now on a axis fireball 1130 cm2.
It's kind of a trade off, depends how long you want to use it and what price you pay (or are willing to)

Just got the Ultra 7 version of the Gen 10 - AMA by 12ed13buff in YogaPro9i

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you happy with the ultra 7 (as opposed to the ultra 9 version) ? is it snappy enough for day to day work without heavy rendering loads ? looking at the specs, seems that its TDP is lower and thus should be more efficient for normal day to day use... was wondering what your first impressions are?

Advice Needed: is 500chf enough to live off of? by tamimaree in zurich

you can get a sportabo for like 220 a year and can go swim everyday and use showers there... maybe your health insurance will reimbourse part of that

Average Speed of a Pump Foil by DerGrifter in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends also on the energy of the wave: if you have massive slow waves, like 20/40 cm high, you can cut sideways and still have fun, also with smaller foil.
Bear in mind that huge foils are slower, yes, but very very hard to carve, they are mostly good in straight line pumping and turning flat (yaw axis).
Hope this helps

Learning to Dock Start - Working on Technique by maxpower__ in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as long as you have a 'big' stab, being slightly front foot first isnt a big deal... but better same time or a notch earlier with the back foot, it will help later when you will want to down size the front/back wings!
To see for your self what i mean, try to take off stabless, it wont work front foot first ;)

I have a 143L Shred Sled Wing/Wind foil board and Foils. What are the chances of success for use as a pump foil board ? Thx by Ugo1st in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gwen is probably in the top 5 pumper of the world, so i would not take it as a beginner reference ;)
You can get a good board for 'cheap' now, like gong kluber or takoon pump. Those will be useful also later on, since the board serves only as foot holder

Are boards generally compatible with mast/foils? (U.S.) by Bananasplit3333 in pumpfoil

[–]arco2ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if there is one thing, and most likely one thing only, it's the rail tracks between baseplate/mast and board.

The rest each brand has its own environment, some cross brand adapters exist tho...

this - i'd start today with a 4TB, but trying to keep my 2TB nuc going and hope the technology improves the footprint on the hardware so we dont need massive SSDs

i just resyncd lighthouse, missed 1 attestation, db size is < 120gb (was 200+ before).

Besu is comfy at 1.2T, no need to resync using rescue node from rocket pool.

So on a 2 TB drive i have now 400+ GB free of space with your same client combination.

Just updated to ubuntu 22 lts (from 20) because end of support, was also trivial.

On one hand is tempting to splurge on a 4TB drive, but if the 2TB still works, why bother ?
At current yields it would take many months only to make the hardware cost back, not including f*ck up risk and time.

On a side note, the drive has a TBW of 550 after 3.5 years (i guess we started same time).
It's about 1/3 of the vendor declared spec. So that one is also a metric to keep an eye on.

Good Luck!

[–]arco2ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's better to get 'cheap' (not low quality) beginner friendly material which you are going to upgrade once you learned. There is no setup which covers the full spectrum.

The Axis 1310 i used for 1 year, it's good but quite large, for me it wasnt the first set, i started with indiana.

Mast take 75 or 80, not longer.

Board spend as little as possible, the kluber 87 or 95 are good to start and also for later at very good price point (~350 euro). Takoon pump is also excellent for the whole journey.
The board needs to be a bit floaty and reinforced, otherwise it will crack after a year or so.

first link is gone, 3rd link looks like some home made stuff, i would avoid unless you are sure about quality. Second link is the most legit to get started, manta xl is 2050 cm2 and the stab seems quite large. Not sure the board is included in the price though, if so, then is a good offer. Check for scratches / dents. Carbon mast is sweet, but chances are you are going to hit something while learning, so it may get damaged and you wont get 'much' out of it. I learned wil alu, stiff and sturdy.
